No Interest In FDL County Board Vacancy So Far

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says no one has shown any interest yet in filling a vacancy on the County Board. Supervisor Brenda Schneider is resigning at the end of the year to become County Treasurer.  Freiberg says she’s been on the look out for cover letters and resumes, but hasn’t gotten anything so far. She says those interested in the District 13 seat on the County Board need to get their cover letters and resumes to her by January 3rd. Those interested in the seat should send a resume and cover letter with their name, address and phone number to the Fond du Lac County Clerk, PO Box 1557, Fond du Lac, WI 54936. No Change In Pay For NFDL Police Chief At This Time

The North Fond du Lac Village Board this week decided not to make a decision at this time about an increase in salary for the police chief. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says Chief Darren Pautsch was promoted from his then position as Captain when Bill Lamb left to become Fond du Lac’s Police Chief in the summer of 2011. He says the captain’s position was never filled. He says they have been working on organizing the police department to eliminate the captain’s position. He says since Pautsch is doing more as chief they thought about changing the chief’s pay grade to pay more, but the board decided to defer making a decision. Hornung says he did get information on what comparable communities are paying their police chiefs.

United Way Update

The Fond du Lac Area United Way has reached 67 percent of its fundraising goal of $760,000. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee  says they have collected a little over $509,000. Marcia Snyder from Hometown Bank is a campaign chair. She says people can help out the United Way by buying new furniture and appliances at Silica for Your Home, which is doing a pay-it-forward fundraiser for the United Way through this Sunday. She says customers will get 5 percent off their purchase and the United Way will get 5 percent. Kilawee says there are several ways you can give directly to the United Way. She says they will take a donation on their website or you can give them a call at (920) 921-7010.

Migrant Worker Sentenced For Stabbing

The Washington County migrant worker who stabbed a co-worker has been sentenced to two years in prison and two years of extended supervision. This week 38-year-old Roberto Castillo-Noyola was sentenced for the August 2015 incident. Investigators say he believed the other man had stolen beer and money from him when he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the man multiple times. The incident happened on August 1st of last year.

Oshkosh Sex Offender Moving

Oshkosh Police say a 26-year-old sex offender is moving to 211 High Avenue Apartment C.  Zachery Shaffer has been convicted of 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and stalking. He is on GPS monitoring and is on active supervision with the Department of Corrections until June 1st of 2021.

Volunteers Needed For Waupun Area Animal Shelter

The Waupun Area Animal Shelter is in need of dependable volunteers. Volunteers are needed for cleaning the shelter in the mornings, socializing with and walking dogs, socializing with cats and people to assist potential adopters during open hours. Those who can spare 1 to 3 hours or more as a volunteer are asked to contact the shelter at (920) 324-3200.

Rogers Resignation Accepted

The Fox Lake City Council made it official this week accepting the resignation of City Administrator Gary Rogers. Rogers will be retiring after his last day of work for the city, which is Friday, December 30th. He has served the city for over three years. Chuck Schranz will fill the position in the interim until a new part-time administrator is found.

Gift Wrapping At Forest Mall Benefits Church Youth Group

A church youth group is offering gift wrapping services at the Fond du Lac Forest Mall during the holiday season. The service is the major fund raiser for “God’s Pride” a youth group with Our Risen Savior Church in Woodhull.  All they ask for in return is a donation to their organization. They are located across from Orange Julius basically right at center court.  The service is available every Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday up until Christmas Eve.
