Fireworks Ordinance

If you’re using fireworks this 4th of July weekend make sure they are legal. Fond du Lac Police Officer Erik Foster says a simple rule of thumb applies. He says if it flies up in the air or explodes, it’s illegal. He says there is a reason why the City has an ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks. He says with buildings so close together there is a risk of fire or someone being hurt. Foster says the fireworks you purchase at a roadside stand you can legally possess, but using them is a different story. He says the permits you get at those stands to use them don’t have any authority to supersede the City ordinance. Some tips for fireworks handling never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks. Always have water ready in case of a fire. Sparklers are the number one cause of burns around this holiday.
