Highway 23
& County K Traffic

With
the recent opening of the new Saint Mary’s Springs
Academy school in Fond du Lac, drivers have seen more traffic
near the intersection of Highway 23 and County Highway K. Because of the
increased traffic, the intersection was closed last week to allow for
improvements. Larry Foster of the Fond
du Lac
Advisory Parking and Traffic Board says a lot
of ideas were brought to the table for the intersection, but the board decided
slotted left turn lanes were the best option.
He adds that those left turn lanes are only a temporary solution, as in
2019 a bridge will be built for Highway 23 to go over County Road K.  Foster says the board found that 80 percent
of traffic going to the academy was coming from west of Highway 151 What the
board suggests to keep the flow of traffic moving is a clockwise pattern: go
north on Highway 151, turn right (south) on County K to the school and then
continue on to Highway 23 in a westward direction

du Lac
County

Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the training is targeted toward the
family and friends of someone who may be addicted to opiates such as pills or
heroin. She adds that the training is a proactive way for the community to
confront the problem of opioid addiction and those who participate will receive
a free kit that contains Narcan.  The
first training date is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27th at 5:30
pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Division Street in Fond du Lac. Additional training dates are
set for October 13th at Families United in Ripon and another at St. Paul’s in Fond

for 2017 as well.  An RSVP is encouraged

Flu Shots
Will Be Given in Schools next Month

Officials
with the Fond du Lac County Health Department are reminding parents that they
will soon be in schools across the county administering the flu vaccine. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller
says they get out to 55 schools each year in the county. She says the flu
vaccine sessions will begin in mid-October and parents should be on the lookout
for consent forms that will be coming home with their child. Mueller says the
one difference for parents to be aware of in this year’s program is that the
flu mist will not be given. She says that there will be individual clinics set
up in November and December as well for kids who want their parents present
when they get a shot.

Tap Into UW
Colleges And Extension

Officials
with the UW Colleges and Extension are asking friends and alumni who have
benefitted from their services to share their experiences with the public.
Martin Rudd is the executive officer and dean of the UW’s Northeast Region. He
says people have positive stories and they would like to hear from them through
the Tap Into It program. He says it might be about a class that opened doors, a
program that inspired them or a community partner that earned their trust. A
website has been established where stories can be shared. Rudd says it is up to
you whether you want to share that antidote with the public or not. Rudd says
every day 200,000 people tap into UW Colleges and Extension resources.

Navy
Captain From Taycheedah Wishes Packers Good Luck

KFIZ got a
special request to share a message from a Packer fan. That message traveled thousands
of miles to get here. Navy Captain Melanie Ha’o (HAH-OH) is from Taycheedah,
but is currently stationed in Guam. She wanted
to make sure that people knew even though she is serving her country far from
home; she is still backing the Green and Gold. She says she wanted to wish the
Green Bay Packers good luck this season and drove in home with, “Go, Pack, Go!”
The Packers themselves are far from Green Bay
this weekend traveling to Jacksonville
to take on the Jaguars. You can hear the game on KFIZ beginning at 10 a.m.
Sunday Morning.
