Jury Hears Closing Arguments

The jury in the trial for a Fond du Lac woman was given a lot to think about during closing arguments Friday. Tina Ewell was on trial for allegedly helping her sister Eve Nance hide the body of Nance’s husband Tim after Eve shot and killed him in November of 2013. Fond du Lac County Deputy District Attorney Dennis Krueger said Nance called her sister for help because she was in a panic. Defense attorney Dawn Sabel suggested Eve Nance called Ewell because she just shot her husband and needed something normal in her life that only someone close to her could give her.

Gas Leak Reported On Thomas Street

Fond du Lac firefighters were called to the scene of a natural gas leak twice Friday. Assistant Chief Erick Gerritson says a private contractor was putting in a new electrical service in the 500 block of Thomas Street that morning and struck a 1-inch service line. Gerritson says although the leak was small Alliant Energy officials were concerned about it because the leak was near a transformer. No residences were evacuated and no one was harmed. Firefighters were called back to the same area of Thomas Street for a “smell of gas” early Friday afternoon.

Nine Arrested For Prostitution In Oshkosh

Oshkosh Police have arrested nine men for prostitution. Police say the men arrested during the undercover investigation ranged in age from 19 to 55 years old. They were from Appleton, Black Creek, Fond du Lac, Watertown, Redgranite and Oshkosh. All nine were arrested for prostitution. One of the men was also arrested for felony drug possession. Seven of the nine men were taken to jail.

Mayville Man Bound Over For Trial On Child Porn Charges

The 42-year-old Mayville man suspected of possessing child pornography waived his preliminary hearing in Dodge County court this week. William Waldoch was charged in Dodge County court this week with 6 felony counts of possessing child porn. According to the criminal complaint his online activity made him a suspect. During the execution of a search warrant at his home last February 15th illegal images were found on his electronic devices. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for November 23rd.

Waupun Considering Property Assessment

City officials in Waupun are considering their first full assessment of city properties in over 20 years. It is an item that would have to be included in the City’s 2017 Budget. City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says their current assessor, Associated Appraisal, estimates it would take three years and cost over $30,000.  She says the assessment would have a couple of benefits. It would ensure taxes are equally distributed. It also would attract outside developers.  She says builders are reluctant to construct new housing because assessed values are too low and they may not get the full value for their houses.

Concrete Repairs On Interstate 41 SB At Hwy 151

Wisconsin’s DOT says maintenance crews will be repairing concrete on southbound I-41 at US 151 in Fond du Lac County beginning Monday at 7 a.m. The work should be completed by 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. A continuous right lane closure will occur during repairs. In addition, the southbound I-41 off-ramp to US 151 will close Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Southbound 1-41 traffic seeking US 151 should exit at County Highway D and take County Highway D to US 151. All work is weather dependent.

Resolution Of Support For Envision FDL

The Fond du Lac School Board this week approved a resolution supporting the work of Envision Fond du Lac. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says he’s been involved in some of the work done by Envision. He says that has involved integrating youth on local not-for-profit boards as student representatives. But he says that is just one part of the visioning program, which strives to improve Fond du Lac. He says overall Envision Fond du Lac is a very positive group with a diverse group of stakeholders that is trying to move the community forward.

FDL City Council Honors Altrusa

The Fond du Lac City Council this week honored Altrusa International of Fond du Lac for its 65 years of support to the community. Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan presented a proclamation to three of members of the local organization. Altrusa President Rita Kranig thanked her and the Council. Kranig says community service and literacy are their main focus. She says they’ve presented scholarships, have a reading room at the Solutions Center, provide bookcases and books for all new Habitat Homes, support the adult literacy program, and are involved in he Mobile Meals program. The proclamation was presented during the Council’s meeting this past Wednesday.
