Wild Rose Man Convicted Of Theft Charge In FDL County

A 52-year-old Wild Rose man who defrauded Sadoff Iron and Metal of Fond du Lac pled no contest to a theft charge this week. By doing so Daniel Christianson avoided a three-day jury trial. According to the criminal complaint the Fox Valley Metal semi-truck driver brought scrap vehicles filled with extra weight to Sadoff’s to sell. Sadoff’s owner told an investigator Sadoff’s was cheated out of over $100,000. Fifty-year-old Donald Krueger of Fond du Lac, who worked for Sadoff’s at the time, was involved in the scheme. He pled no contest to the same theft charge last December and was sentenced to five years of probation.

Waupun Teen Waives Preliminary Hearing

The Waupun teen that allegedly stabbed a Randolph man last month has been bound over for trial in Dodge County Court. Eighteen-year-old Nicholas Core is charged with Injury by Negligent Use of a Weapon. A comment posted on social media about a girl was the catalyst for the stabbing in front of a home in the 500 block of West Brown Street. An 18-year-old Randolph man suffered a two-inch cut to his arm and was treated at Waupun Memorial Hospital.  Core will be arraigned on November 30th.

Five Detained For Scrap Metal Theft In Washington County

A 37-year-old Campbellsport woman was among five people detained for a scrap metal theft this week in Washington County. Sheriff’s officials say she was in a blue minivan that had 1,100 pounds of scrap wire in it when it was pulled over by Sheriff’s deputies. The people in the van were seen loading the wire into a minivan at a Town of Barton residence. A similar theft occurred at the same residence only days before.  Three of the occupants including the Campbellsport woman were arrested for misdemeanor theft and another on a probation hold. In addition to the Campbellsport woman, three West Bend men and a Town of Farmington man were among those detained.

Howards Grove Man Drives Vehicle Into House A Second Time

For a second time this year a 35-year-old Howards Grove man is facing charges for driving his vehicle into a house. Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say Ryan Schuette fled the scene of foot after crashing his vehicle into the side of a home late Thursday night. He’s facing his 6th OWI charge and several others. Earlier this year Schuette also drove into the side of a home in Howards Grove. He got a plea agreement, paid a fine and was cited for driving without a license.

FDL Relay For Life Wants To Move Event To Lakeside Park

Organizers of Fond du Lac Relay for Life are looking for a change of venue. Mike Kollmansberger of the group told the Fond du Lac City Council this week they have been doing the annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society for 22 years. During that time they started out at St. Mary’s Springs High School, moved to Goodrich High School, and finally the Fond du Lac High School. Now he says they would like to take advantage of the completion of the Fond du Lac Loop in Lakeside Park. He says they would like to hold their event at the City’s beautiful park. A request was put in with the City to host the event in the park.

United Way Update

The Fond du Lac Area United Way continues to make progress on their goal of raising $760,000 this fall. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee gave an update during the United Way’s weekly segment on KFIZ. She says they are at 35 percent of their goal or just over $276,000. She says they feel great about the campaign. One of the fundraisers held on behalf of the United Way this past week was the Realtor’s Annual Soup and Chili Luncheon. It was held at Guaranty Title Services. Kilwawee says they sold out of soup and chili.

New Staff Member At FDLAAC

The Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce has a new staff member. Joe Venhuizen is the Director of Membership and Programs. He says he grew up on a Dairy Farm in Dodge County, but moved out of state for school. But he was lured back to the area by its charms. He says he has found his way home. He says he is happy to invest in the community and put down roots here because it has always been home to him.

FDL County Audubon Presents Living With Pet Birds

The Fond du Lac County Audubon Society will host a free program with live birds at Theisen Middle School in Fond du Lac this morning. It will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Mary Kay Rosenow and Randy Berryman, founders, of the Roseberry Bird Rescue in Neenah will bring a number of rescue birds. You can learn to take care of pet birds, meet Angel the Cockatoo, Sammie the Macaw, and a variety of smaller birds.
