FDL Man Bound Over For Trial On Human Trafficking Charges

The 27-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of spearheading a prostitution ring has been bound over for trial. Beau Brown had a preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac County Court Thursday. He faces 22 different charges including sexual assault, human trafficking, battery and more. According to the criminal complaint he used Craigslist to post ads for sex. Brown allegedly charged men $250 to $400 to have sex with a victim. Judge Peter Grimm did lower Brown’s bond from $250,000 cash to $100,000 cash.

Halloween Candy Tampering Reported

Police in two more Wisconsin cities are trying to find out who tampered with the Halloween candy that children picked up while trick or treating. Police in Neenah said Thursday that two families found nails inside of Tootsie Rolls that were given out. Katie Van Dyke said she cut a finger while reaching into a candy bowl on Tuesday night. Police in Wisconsin Rapids say someone also found a nail in a Tootsie Roll. Meanwhile, officials are still trying to get to the bottom of two other tampering incidents made public on Wednesday. Police say a screw was placed into a candy bar a youngster received in Portage, and a blood pressure pill got into a 16-year-old girl’s stash of candy in Fort Atkinson.

Kewaskum Schools Referendum

Voters in the Kewaskum School District are being asked to approve borrowing $28.4 million for improvements, renovation and modernization to the middle school and high school on next Tuesday’s ballot. In addition to Kewaskum, 68 other Wisconsin school districts have referendum questions on Tuesday’s ballot. In this area that includes school districts in Beaver Dam, Campbellsport and Waupun. 

Waupun FD Food Drive Today

The Waupun Fire Department is holding its eighth annual ‘Fill Our Tanks’ food drive today.  Firefighters will collect food and cash donations at the fire station and the Waupun Piggly Wiggly from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Then from 5-8 p.m. the firefighters are partnering with Waupun Pizza Ranch for the ‘Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries’ event.  Anyone who orders a pizza during those hours can have it delivered in a fire truck.  While at the house, the firefighters will inspect the smoke detectors and provide up to two free batteries.  Since 2009, the event has raised $7,000 and collected over 28,000 pounds of food for the pantry.

Kids And Bees Expo In Fondy Today

Kids can learn about honey bees and see them up close, but safely during an event in Fond du Lac today. The Kids & Bees Expo will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center. American Honey Queen Kim Kester will be there. She says there are 300 varieties of honey in Wisconsin alone. Kids will be able to learn more about products of the beehive, observe a hive with live bees, roll their own beeswax candle and more. The event is free and is sponsored by the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association as part of their State Convention.

Izaak Walton League Sight In Today In FDL

Deer hunters can get their rifles sighted-in at the Izaak Walton League Club Grounds in Fond du Lac the next two weekends. The cost is $5 per gun. There will be hot food and drinks served on the grounds. The A.D. Sutherland Chapter of the club is a conservation club. Part of their mission is to spread the word about being good stewards of our land, air and water. Hours today and tomorrow, and next Saturday and Sunday for the sight-in are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To get to the club grounds take Highway 23 east about a mile out of the city and turn south on County Highway K.

Local United Ways Receive Grants From Brunswick Public Foundation

The Fond du Lac Area United Way and Oshkosh Area United Way both recently received grants from the charitable arm of the company that owns Mercury Marine. The Brunswick Public Foundation recently announced the awarding of grants totaling $105,000 to those United Way chapters and two more in Oklahoma and Michigan. Mercury is owned by the Brunswick Corporation.

Time Change Sunday

The Division Chief for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue asks residents to keep one other thing in mind when you are changing clocks tonight. Troy Haase says with the change in Daylight Saving Time every six months or so, it is also a good time to change batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. He says if they are working properly they could end up saving your life. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. It’s time to “Fall Back” or set your clocks back an hour.
