Berlin Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Double Murder

The 34-year-old Berlin man who shot his estranged wife and her boyfriend has been sentenced to life in prison. A Green Lake County judge this week sentenced Nicholas Tuinstra. In February a jury found Tuinstra guilty of two counts of 1st degree intentional homicide and one count of stalking. Tuinstra murdered Melissa Tuinstra and Justin Daniels, both 28-years-old, at their apartment building in Berlin on September 27th of 2014. Nicholas and Melissa Tuinstra had filed for divorce the week leading up to the murder.

Oven Fire In FDL Could Have Been Worse

Fond du Lac firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in an apartment at the corner of Main and 14th Streets Thursday night. Fire Captain Jim Knowles says a family had a chicken baking in the oven and left the apartment. The apartment is located behind Ang an Eddie’s Pizza and a restaurant employee noticed smoke coming for the apartment and called 911.  Knowles says when they arrived they found the fire confined to the oven, but smoke had filled the apartment. He says if the apartment had been on fire it would have been a challenge to put out due to the age and layout of the building.

Child Starts Garage Fire

Fire damaged a garage in the Town of Hartford late Friday morning. Washington County Sheriff’s officials say the fire was on Arthur Road. A child playing with a trigger-ignited LP torch started a wall calendar on fire. Flames spread to insulation in the attic. Firefighters were able to put the blaze to unattached garage out before it was engulfed. Damage to the garage and contents was estimated at $12,500.

Cascade Woman Hurt In Sheboygan County Rollover Crash

A 23-year-old Cascade woman was hurt in a rollover crash on Sheboygan County Highway F late Thursday night. Sheriff’s officials say she was the sole occupant of the vehicle and Flight for Life took her to Froedtert Memorial Hospital. She was cited for drunken driving.

Five Teens Arrested After Washington County High Speed Chase

Five teens were taken into custody following a high speed chase into Washington County. Sheriff’s officials say they were contacted about a vehicle that had been carjacked and Milwaukee Police were pursuing. The teenage boys abandoned the vehicle when it became disabled on State Highway 164 in the Village of Richfield. Milwaukee police dogs successfully tracked the boys that ranged in age from 15 to 17 years of age. The pursuit and capture happened early Thursday morning.

Busy Holiday Weekend For Sheriffs Department

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says even with the Tornado in Brandon over the holiday weekend they had more than 250 traffic stops. He says they had Click or Ticket and several grant-funded patrols going during the Memorial Day Weekend. He says they had 250 traffic stops on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of this past week. He says that is a lot of traffic stops. He says Click or Ticket runs through this Sunday, but they also have OWI and Highway 23 patrols going as well. 

Possible Referendum In Rosendale Brandon School District

Rosendale-Brandon District Adminstrator Gary Hansen says there may be a referendum in the school district’s future. He says the school board has not taken any official action yet to schedule a referendum for the district. He says from the talks they have had there could be a referendum next spring for operational funding. Hansen is retiring at the end of the month after 42 years in the district. He’s seen several referendums during the 15 years he has been district administrator.

Eagle Scout Project A Real Life Saver

A Fond du Lac Eagle Scout’s project will make boating safer for those using Lakeside Park. Fond du Lac Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says for his Eagle Scout project Matt Starks proposed a kiosk in Lakeside Park West where people could borrow life jackets and floatation devices. He says it was a project the DNR worked on. He says the DNR will replenish life jackets as needed to make sure they are in good condition. The project was named “Kids Don’t Float.”

Flag Retirement Program

Advanced Disposal is holding its second annual American flag retirement program through September 11th. The free service is available at all 226 Advanced Disposal locations including their locations in Horicon, Chilton and Sheboygan. The old American flags will collected and property disposed of.
