County government offices will be closed today and tomorrow
for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The county offices in the
lobby window, Portland Street Annex including the Veteran Services Office,
Highway Department, Department of Social Services and the Department of Community
Programs will all be closed.
City Offices/Services Closed Today:
City offices in the
closed today and tomorrow for the Thanksgiving Holiday. There will be no
garbage or recycling collection today or tomorrow, with Friday’s collection
being moved back to Monday. Other closures for the holiday include the
and City Transit Buses which will resume regular operations on Monday. The

Dodge County Death Update
Dodge
County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the man found dead in a
cabin near Reeseville Monday evening. Authorities say 46 year old James S.
Greevers Jr. of Milwaukee was found dead and his father, 69 year old James S.
Greevers Sr. also from Milwaukee remains hospitalized. Sheriff’s officials
received a call Monday asking for a welfare check on the two men who were
overdue to return from a hunting trip to the cabin, which is located in the
Township of Portland in Dodge County. Upon arriving, deputies found James
Greevers Jr. unresponsive and Greevers Sr. . with a life threatening medical
condition. A specific cause has not been determined, but authorities are
looking into carbon monoxide and other environmental factors. The incident
remains under investigation by the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Fire Safety While Visiting Others
If you’re visiting friends or relatives this holiday season,
a Division Chief for
Fire and Rescue says having an escape plan in case of fire is just as important
as in your own home. Troy Haase says there are a few things families
should walk through. He says families should know how to get out of the house
and where the fire extinguisher is. Haase says its also important to know how
to get out of the front door, or if you have to use a window to escape an upper
floor of the home. He says these are often things people don’t think about
because you don’t think you’re going to have a fire, but families should take
advantage of looking around and planning for their safety.
USDA Food Safe Thanksgiving
Officials with the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety
and Inspection Service (FSIS) are offering five tips for a food safe
Thanksgiving. First, they say to avoid washing your turkey. Washing raw meat
and poultry can cause bacteria to spread up to three feet away. The USDA says
cooking meat and poultry to the right temperature kills any bacteria, so
washing isn’t necessary. To defrost your turkey, the USDA says to use the
refrigerator, the cold-water method or even the microwave. It’s also
recommended that you use a meat thermometer while cooking, to avoid storing
food outside, even if the temperatures are cold and, if you’re going to have
leftovers, remember that they’re good in the refrigerator for up to four days.
If you plan on keeping them longer, the USDA says to put them in the freezer in
airtight bags or containers. If you need additional food safety help today, the
