Hand Held Cell Phones Prohibited In Highway Work Zones After This Month

Starting October 1st it will be illegal to use a hand held cell phone in a highway construction zone. It’s a new state law that goes into effect. State Patrol Inspector Scott Hlinak says even if no one is working if it is a posted work zone it will be against the law to use your hand held phone. He says that includes temporary work zones too. Sergeant Luke Newman says even a couple of seconds distraction on a cell phone can lead to an accident. He says lane closures and merges happen fast in a work zone and you could end up running someone else off the road.

Campbellsport School Referendum In November

Voters in the Campbellsport School District will be asked to approve a $23.4 million referendum this November. District Administrator Paul Amundson says their middle-high school was built in 1938. He says curriculum needs and the age of the building are driving the referendum. If successful they would tear down the 1938, 1951 and 1956 sections of the building and put up a new facility in its place that would house a new gym, technical education, and STEM classrooms. He says they would also put in a new office and a centralized entrance. If the referendum passes it would raise taxes for a $100,000 home by $62 a year for three years and go to $40 after that. In April of 2015 Campbellsport voters rejected a $25 million referendum by less than 300 votes.
