Zero Sales During Recent Tobacco Compliance Check

The program coordinator for the 5 Counties for Tobacco Free Living says during one of their recent compliance checks no one sold cigarettes to a minor. She says every clerk asked for an ID, knew how to read it and denied the sale to a minor. She also notes that only 8 percent of kids at the Fond du Lac High School admitted to smoking cigarettes, which is slightly less than the 10 percent average across the state. She says even though cigarette smoking rates for youth have gone down there are still issues. She says youth are also enticed by little cigars, smokeless tobacco and e-cigarettes. Getting back to the compliance check she says it was a big win for public health and the retailers that they checked.

She says the survey will ask residents to rank top priorities for their needs. She says for example for her it might be improved production practices or cover crop practices.
