BID Budget On City Council Agenda

 

The Fond du Lac
City Council will consider approving the Business Improvement District Plan and
Budget for 2017 tonight. The budget funds the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership and its programs. At
its September 28th meeting the Council approved the City’s annual allocation
increasing it to $100,000 with an additional $20,000 going towards BID
operations. The assessment rate in the BID District will be $2.60 per thousand
dollars of assessed value with a minimum assessment of $150 and a maximum of
$3,000. The Council will also be asked to adopt an honorary street designation
program and policy. The Council meets at 6 p.m. at the City-County Government
Center
.

 

PACE Could Help Hotel Retlaw And Other Businesses

 

Fond du Lac County recently became the 8th County in
the state to join the PACE or Property Assessed Clean Energy Commission. The
program assists local businesses with financing loans for renewable energy,
energy efficiency, and water conservation projects. County
Executive Al Buechel says County Director
of Administration Erin Gerred heard about it at a conference. He says it can
help out local efforts such as the renovation of the Hotel Retlaw. He says it
will assist other businesses in the county, but the new owners of the Retlaw
were already talking to PACE officials before the County joined the commission.
Buechel is serving on the PACE Commission Board of Directors.

 

Town of Marshfield
Crash

 

A
72 year old man from  Waldo was injured
in a one vehicle crash in the Town of Marshfield
around mid-day Tuesday. According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s
Department, the man was driving west on County Highway C near Palm Tree Road
when he failed to negotiate a curve, travelled off the roadway overcorrected
and rolled over. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the
car. Flight for Life responded to the scene and flew the man to ThedaCare Regional
Medical Center
in Neenah for
treatment of significant injuries. The St. Cloud Fire Department, Mount Calvary
Ambulance and First Responders assisted at the scene. The accident was reported
around 11:44am.

 

Replace Smoke Detectors After 10 Years

 

The Division Chief of Fire Prevention for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue say reminds
residents to check their smoke detectors to make sure they are working. Troy
Haase says that includes making sure you can hear them in your bedroom. He
advises closing your bedroom door, turning on your TV and seeing if you can
hear your detector. He says if you can’t, you should put one in your bedroom.
This is Fire Prevention Week and Haase says as part of that the National Fire
Protection Association is asking people to replace their smoke detectors every
ten years. He says the campaign slogan is “Don’t Wait- Check the Date! Replace
Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.”

 

Making Sure Trick Or Treaters Can Be Seen By Drivers

 

Fond du Lac Police Officer
Erik Foster reminds trick or treaters to choose costumes that can be seen by
drivers after dark. He says it would also be a good idea to have something that
illuminates if trick or treating will be after dark. He says a flashlight or a
glow stick will suffice. He says some costumes contain reflective material or
you can improvise. He says reflector strips can be placed on costumes. Trick or

will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, October
30th.

 

Speaking About Suicide

 

A
symposium about suicide prevention will be held in Fond du Lac County.
“Speaking About Suicide, Connecting Trauma-Informed Care to Suicide Prevention”
will take place at Marian University’s Stayer Center
Thursday.  The event will feature Leah
Harris from Washington D.C., who is the founder of Shifa Consulting
and recently spoke at a White House symposium on suicide. Dr. Janet McCord,
Associate Professor of Thanatology at Marian University says the symposium is
not directed just at health care professionals, but the public as a whole, so
they can find out what to do and how to help prevent suicides. The event was
made possible by a grant from the Charles E. Kubly Foundation from Milwaukee, that has
dedicated money to suicide prevention and depression care in the state. Some

Finalists
Announced for FDL Baseball Team Nickname

 

Five
finalists have been announced for the nickname of the new Fond du Lac Northwoods League franchise and
fans are invited to vote for their favorite. Over 800 names were submitted from
baseball fans in the area to the team’s website in the initial phase of
selecting the nickname. The final five are: Barn Owls, Dock Spiders, Lake Flies,
Pipsqueaks and Shantymen. Fans can vote online at fonddulacbaseball.com through
October 31st, with the winning nickname to be announced in
mid-November.
