FDL Career Construction Academy

Fond du Lac Schools Superintendent Jim Sebert says the Career Construction Academy at the high school is a good project for the community. He says they have some great community partners for the $1.1 million facility. The 5,750 square foot building is designed to handle all trades with the capability of teaching all of the current practices. He says there is a need for skilled workers in the area and those jobs could provide kids a career and the chance to stay in the area after they graduate. He says the work would provide family sustaining wages. Sebert says they could work for companies that could use the academy as a pipeline for the workers they need. He says the school board deserves credit for earmarking $500,000 for the project. Sixty percent of the funds needed for the project have been raised. If the rest is raised in time there will be a ground breaking this spring.

Election Protests Not A Problem In FDL

A Fond du Lac Police officer says the presidential election didn’t draw protests in the city like other cities in Wisconsin experienced. Officer Erik Foster says he has worked during other presidential elections. He says when Barack Obama was running for his first term people at Johnson and Main were holding up signs and shouting, but kept it peaceful for the most part. He says even with this election people voiced their opinions, but kept things civil. Foster says they did receive complaints about the theft or vandalism of campaign signs, but it wasn’t as bad as some previous elections.

Childrens Museum Of FDL Doing Well At Scott Street Location

The executive director of the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac says it has been nearly three years since they moved to their location on Scott Street and they continue to attract good numbers of people to the museum. Andrea Welsch says they couldn’t have picked a better location than the one near Lakeside Park. She says they saw a dramatic increase in attendance the first year and have been able to maintain it. She says in their downtown facility they drew about 20,000 and their first year at the Scott Street location they drew twice that. She says they continue to draw about 40,000 people a year. Welsch says these days they are being considered as more of a community partner. She says they educate children on topics that are important for them to know including educational topics and even how to deal with the loss of a loved one. She says other children’s museums have modeled some of their programs after theirs and even tried to recruit some of their staff.
