Dodge County
Death
Investigation:

One man was found dead and another with a life-threatening medical
condition at a cabin in rural Dodge County Monday evening. According to the
Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call Monday asking for a welfare
check on two men who were overdue to return from a hunting trip to the cabin
located near Reeseville. The family said neither person was able to be reached
by phone. When deputies arrived, they could see one of the men unresponsive on
the floor and entered the cabin. There they found a 46 year old man dead and
his 69 year old father with a life-threatening medical problem.  Both men are from Milwaukee. The 69 year old man was taken to a
nearby hospital and then transferred to an intensive care unit in Madison. A specific cause
has not been determined, but authorities are looking into carbon monoxide and
other environmental factors. The Dodge County Medical Examiner is assisting the
sheriff’s department with the investigation.

Holiday
Cooking Safety

Thanksgiving Day is a big day for cooking and there are a few safety
reminders for those who will be working in the kitchen this holiday. Troy
Haase, Division Chief of Fire Prevention for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue says hot stoves
should not be left alone. He says if you have to leave the room, have someone
watch the stove and what’s on it or turn it off. Haase says to keep children
away from the stove and boiling water and if you plan on deep frying your
turkey this year, he says to never put frozen birds in grease or oil, keep the
fryer 10 feet away from your house and be sure to not put it on a wood plank in
case of fire.

Giving Gift Cards

Gift Cards are again expected to a popular gift to give this holiday
season, and officials with the Wisconsin Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer
Protection say there are some tips for people buying and receiving gift cards.
If you’re buying a gift card for someone, its important to inspect packaging it
comes in to ensure no protective stickers have been removed and that the PIN
has not been exposed. DATCAP officials say to read the fine print to understand
usage rules or fees that may come with the card. You are also encouraged to
give an activation receipt with the card to verify the value and date of
purchase. If you get a gift card this holiday, officials say you should use the
card as quickly as possible. Some cards may have inactivity fees that kick in
after a period of unuse, decreasing their value. Officials say to also keep
your cards in a safe place so they aren’t stolen. More information is available
online at datcp.wisconsin.gov or by calling 1-800-422-7128.

Festival Foods Donates To The United Way

Festival Foods gives to the United
Way
in a number of ways. Tyler Soto is Festival’s
Human Resources Manager. He says like other Festival employees he likes giving
back to the community and that is done through a number of organizations funded
by United Way
dollars. Festival took contributions for United Way paper icons from their
associates and customers, which Soto says raised slightly over $2,000. They
also had a brat fry that raised about $1,000 and held a kickball tournament
that raised several hundred dollars. On Thanksgiving they will hold their
annual Turkey Trot run, which helps a couple of organizations that are
associated with the United Way.
Those are the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club. People who would like to
register for the event can do so from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Fond du Lac High School
today and tomorrow from 6 to 8 a.m. The Turkey Trot steps off at 8 tomorrow
morning at the high school.
