Milwaukee Woman Charged For FDL County Chase

A 20-year-old Milwaukee woman who led Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle pursuit early last Thursday morning has been charged. Bond was set at $2,500 cash for Chardae Tatum. Sheriff’s officials say she was suspected of stealing a vehicle out of Cudahy. She took off when deputies tried to pull her over and stop sticks had to be used to deflate her tires. She is facing vehicle theft, fleeing, and marijuana possession charges. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 29th.

Southbound 151 Closure Next Two Nights

Southbound Highway 151 between State Highway 23 and Rienzi Road in Fond du Lac will be closed the next two nights for girder repair. The southbound lanes of Highway 151 will be closed tonight and tomorrow night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Prairie Trail from Highway 23 to Rienzi Road will also be closed at that time. State Highway 23 off-ramps to southbound Highway 151 will be closed as well. The posted detour is Highway 23 to southbound 1-41 to rejoin southbound Highway 151. An oversized vehicle struck the girder during construction of the new County Highway T overpass in June. The overpass project should be completed by mid-November. The work on the girder is weather dependent.

FDL City Council Preview

The Fond du Lac City Council will hear another overview of the 2017 City Budget tonight. There will also be a presentation on the capital improvement plan. City Manager Joe Moore and Director of Administration Tracy Salter will be doing the presentation. On October 26th the Council will hold a public hearing on the budget. Final approval is slated for November 9th. Tonight’s meeting is at 6 p.m. at the City-County Building.

In Person Absentee Voting Begins In FDL

Tuesday Fond du Lac became the second city in Wisconsin to offer in-person absentee voting. Wisconsin Rapids offered it on Monday. Fond du Lac City Clerk Maggie Hefter says they had the option with ballots already available. She says you will need a photo ID if you’re going to take advantage of in-person absentee voting at the clerk’s office. She says a driver’s license, passport, military ID, VA card all can be used for photo ID. Clerks across the state will have in-person absentee ballots available by September 26th. That form of early voting will be available through Friday, November 4th at 5 p.m.

Consultants For Merger Feasibility Study In FDL This Week

The consulting firm chosen to conduct a feasibility study about the possibility of merging the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce and the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation is in the County doing its base work this week. FCEDC President Steve Jenkins says twice before in the past 10 years there were discussions about whether what the two agencies were doing was redundant. He says it was decided that wasn’t the case, but the study is a way of taking a fresh look at the way they are delivering services in the County. He says they will abide by what the McCarthy/Blansett Group decides including a merger if that is what is suggested. Jenkins says all options will be on the table. The consultants are expected to issue their findings for the feasibility study between Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays.

Mailer Will Be Sent Out On NFDL Referendum Issue

North Fond du Lac’s Village Board has decided to send out an information mailer about the Village’s fire truck referendum. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says they want to make sure people are well informed before they decide whether or not to give the Village permission to purchase a new ladder truck for the fire department. He says the mailer should go out soon because absentee voting is beginning. The Village will be asking for permission to borrow $945,000, which includes interest, for a 10 year period.

Home Sales Increase In FDL County In August

The sales of existing homes and the median price of those homes in Fond du Lac County both increased last month. According to the Wisconsin Realtors Association homes sales increased by 6.1 percent compared to August of last year and the price of those homes increased by 2.9 percent to $129, 900. Statewide home sales were up by 9 percent in August and the median price of a home increased by 5.3 percent.

Dodge County Sheriffs Office Offers ATV Safety Course

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Recreation Patrol will be hosting an ATV Safety Certification Class October 24th and 25th. Individuals who were born on January 1, 1988 or later need the safety certificate in order to legally operate an ATV or UTV.   The Class will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 those evenings at the Dodge County Administration Building in Juneau.  The cost of the class is $10.
