Letter Reviews School Safety Initiatives In FDL

22-Feb-2018

Update:

A letter was sent out Thursday to parents and guardians in the Fond du Lac School District in light of the tragic shooting at a Florida High School. The letter reviews safety initiatives and guidelines currently in place to protect students. It also recommends things parents and guardians can do. “When you have unfortunate events such as the one that just happened in Florida we thought it might be nice just to take an opportunity to revisit the things that we do and share those with parents in the community and also talk about some things parents can do with their kids.” Fond du Lac School District Superintendent Jim Sebert says he hasn’t heard whether kids at the high school have been talking much about what happened in Florida and they haven’t had any challenges since it happened. But administrators across the district have been reviewing their safety protocols. He says, “We have had discussions in our administrative team about making sure all the doors in the district are locked on the perimeter of the buildings and making sure when we are pushing the button to buzz people in that we are making sure that we know who they are and taking our time to identify people that we don’t know.” The letter was cosigned by Sebert, Police Chief Bill Lamb, Fire Chief Peter O’Leary, and County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken.  Seventeen people were killed in the Florida High School shooting.
