Library Board Member Asks FDL City Council To Consider More Funding

Only one person spoke during the public hearings last night on the 2014 Fond du Lac City Budget, Transit System Budget and 5-year Capital Improvements Plan. Mel Kolstad of the Library Board told the Council that unless the library gets more funding from the City it will have to use furlough days for staff and reduce library hours. She said that according to figures their inflation adjusted funding level has been in steady decline especially since 2011 while on the other hand more people than ever are using the library’s services. Also during the meeting Council President Sam Meyer presented members of the Fire Department with a proclamation proclaiming October 6th through 12th Fire Prevention Week in the City to go along with National Fire Prevention Week. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase said they have tentatively planned to do a kitchen fire demonstration on October 4th at the Forest Mall, but are still making arrangements.
