Supervisor Says Assessment Should Have Been Done

A Fond du Lac County supervisor questioned a land trade this week that the County made with the Village of Mt. Calvary that will be used to construct a salt shed on. County supervisors voted in favor of the deal, which gives the County a little over a third of an acre of land in village in exchange for the County writing off $14,000 of the village’s portion of work on a county highway in the village. Supervisor John Zorn explained that’s its just east of the County’s highway garage there and otherwise they are landlocked. He says the property was not assessed. He says previously the village used the land for their tennis courts, which they have since abandoned. Supervisor Ted Eischeid felt an assessment should have been done because he felt the village was getting a better deal than they should have. Eischeid voted against the resolution, the rest of the board was in favor of it.

Representative Thiesfeldt On Campaign Finance Legislation

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt was among those voting for campaign finance changes this week in the State Assembly. He says it will make it easier for people to participate in the political process and was needed given recent court decisions. It also led to some drama in the Assembly chambers when all Democratic members recused themselves from voting. The Fond du Lac Republican says it was their right to do so, but left a lot of Wisconsin residents without representation on the issue. He says about 2 million people were represented by those 36 Democrats. Thiesfeldt says the legislation will allow double the limit individuals are allowed to contribute to a campaign, but also clarifies some issues on third party spending. He believes it will help those running for office and make it easier for people to understand how their donations work. The legislation passed on a 61 to 0 vote and now goes to the Senate.
