Second Serious Accident On Highway 23

A second serious accident on Highway 23 east of Fond du Lac Thursday afternoon involved two vehicles and a driver who was pinned inside one of them. That driver was transported from the scene to a hospital. The accident happened around 2:30 on Highway 23 at Pit Road, which is near Mt. Calvary.

Car Fire In FDL

Fond du Lac firefighters responded to what they believed was a garage fire in the 200 block of 5th Street Thursday morning. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says it was actually a car fire inside a two-car garage at 219 5th Street. He says the owner went out to start his car there was a small explosion and when he opened up the hood there were flames in the engine compartment. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. It was contained to the car. Haase says there were no injuries. He says there was a lot of damage to the engine compartment and motor of the car. The time of the fire call was 9:18 a.m.

Sheboygan County Pursuit

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say the driver of a car that led deputies on a high speed pursuit on I-43 early Thursday morning is facing fleeing charges. A deputy tried to pull the vehicle over in the Town of Sheboygan, but the car sped up when the deputy activated lights and sirens. The car was doing up to 110 miles per hour heading south on I-43. Eventually road spikes were used and the fleeing vehicle crashed at the dead end of Foster Road in the Town of Holland. There were no injuries.

Public Memorial Service Saturday For Chief Heller

A public memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church Saturday morning for former Fond du Lac Police Chief Mel Heller. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Heller died last Friday. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Afterwards he was with the Fond du Lac Police Department from 1949 to 1990 retiring as Chief. He also was a County Board supervisor for 20 years. He was 90 years old.

Feingold Campaign Raises $3 Million In First Quarter

Russ Feingold’s U.S. Senate campaign Thursday released fundraising figures for the first quarter. $3.3 million was raised for the former U.S. Senator’s run against incumbent Senator Ron Johnson. According to the Feingold campaign 96 percent of the contributions were under $100 and the average contribution was just under $50.
