Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say a 55-year-old Neosho man was the victim of a fatal ATV accident in the Town of Herman Tuesday night. Steven Ihde was operating an ATV on private property off County Road AY. He was heading north along a hillside when he struck an object and his ATV rolled over. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

Oshkosh Police Investigate Swatting Call

Oshkosh Police are investing a “Swatting” prank call they received early Thursday morning. The caller said he had fatally shot his girlfriend and tied up his niece in a business on Omro Road.  2200 block of Omro Road. Police and Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies responded. After entering the building they found no evidence of a shooting and the building owner said everything was in order. Anyone who might have information about the prank call is urged to call Oshkosh Police at (920) 236-5700.

Ripon Man Sentenced For Grocery Store Robbery

An 18-year-old Ripon man who participated in a grocery store robbery last September has been sentenced. Tyler Cody was recently sentenced in Fond du Lac County Court on a charge of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety. He was sentenced to 9 months in jail and 4 years of probation. Cody entered the Ripon Pick ‘N Save last September 19th to scope out the store. Then 22-year-old Cody Shaffer entered the store with what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.  The gun was a toy gun Schaffer had stolen from a local store. When police captured the two shortly after the robbery they still had money from the robbery in their pockets.  In April Schaffer was sentenced to 3 years in prison, a year of probation, and a year of extended supervision.

Working With Dredged Materials From Lakeside Park Channels

Fond du Lac Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says it took a long time for a pile of material dredged out of the channels in Lakeside Park to de-water. He says they had three different areas where they deposited those materials in Lakeside Park West. He says now that the largest of those piles has dried out they are re-grading the site and mixing the soils to get some vegetation on it. He says their new park supervisor John Redmond has met with equipment operators to talk about adding variety to it. He says they may create some rolling areas and put in an observation deck to overlook Supple’s Marsh or the Lake. He says they also plan on mowing some trails through the area in coming summers, which people could snowshoe on during the winters.

Malone Farm Will Host Next Breakfast On The Farm

The agricultural programs director for the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce admits she actually began planning for next June’s Breakfast on the Farm before last Sunday’s breakfast in Lomira. More than 3,400 people attended the breakfast at the Dan and Brenda Michels Family Farm. Brenda Gudex says it takes a lot of planning for the breakfast. She says next year’s Breakfast on the Farm will be held at the J & J Pickart Farm in Malone. She says it is a bigger farm. She says like the Michels’ farm it is family owned and they are hoping for great weather again for the breakfast.

Door To Door Scams

The chairperson of TRIAD says now that summertime is here seniors should be on the look out for more door-to-door scams. Jaime Roth says when it comes to people who come to your door you have to trust your gut. She says always ask for identification and if you don’t feel comfortable about it just close your door. She says to also watch out for the home improvement scams in which people come to your door offering to pave your driveway, repair your roof or do other home repairs. She says it would be better to do business with some one local you can trust.

Office Closings

Most city and county government offices in Fond du Lac are closed today in observance of the 4th of July Holiday. The Fond du Lac Public Library will be open today, but closed on Saturday. In that same vein the KFIZ business offices are also closed today.
