Baldwin On Health Care

 

(WRN) U-S Senator Tammy Baldwin says it's unacceptable that 38-thousand Wisconsin residents will have to wait until next year to obtain coverage through federal health exchanges. Baldwin is asking the federal government to give them a second chance right away to enroll in coverage plans. The Wisconsin Democrat says she wants to work with Governor Walker to identify the people in the gap and get them covered.

 

Stop ID Theft

 

(WRN)A back to school lesson on protecting your identity. State Division of Trade and Consumer Protection administrator Sandy Chalmers says college students can be easy targets for identity thieves, so it's important to stress the need to shred documents with personal information on them, or to keep them locked up. Chalmers says students should also be cautious about doing online banking or shopping when using un-secured Wi-Fi.

 

Court & Class

 

(WRN)  Teachers are being invited to Madison for a chance to see the State Supreme Court in session. It’s a program called Courts with Class run in conjunction with the State Bar. Chief justice Shirley Abrahamson says students will get to see crucial cases that were picked by the judges on review.  They’ll also get a chance to meet one of the justices and ask questions about the justice system in the state.

 

Getting Your Degree

 

(WRN) Working parents and adults who started college but never completed their degree now have a new, affordable opportunity to earn a University of Wisconsin degree at their own pace through the UW Colleges Flexible Option program. Other institutions across the nation will be watching the progress of this program.  UW System President Ray Cross says this is a result of a landmark financial aid option approved by the U.S. Department of Education for students in a competency-based flexible option degree program.

 

Fondue Fest

As many as 20,000 people will be in downtown Fond du Lac on Saturday for Fondue Fest.  The event runs from 9am to 5pm and stretches from Merrill to Western on historic Main Street   There will be four music stages, numerous vendors and plenty of activities for the kids.  After Fondue Fest wraps up Thelma is hosting Copper Box from 5pm to 7pm on an outdoor stage for The Fondue Fest Finale sponsored by K017.1.
