Photo ID Will Be Used At Polls In February

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says there is some confusion over using photo ID at the polls. Voters will have to use it for the primary election on Tuesday, February 16th. Freiberg says people get confused when they hear about the federal Real ID program, but your state driver’s license or state photo ID will suffice. She says election workers will be checking for three things when they look at your photo ID. She says those things are your photo, your name, and the expiration date on your driver’s license. She says you can use an expired driver’s license up to a point. She says if it expired before November 5th of 2014, the day after the last general election.

NFDL Considering EMS Director

The North Fond du Lac Village Board is still deciding what to do about the combined position of Fire Chief and EMS Director. The new position of EMS Director will focus more on EMS than Fire. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says back in June the Police and Fire Commission made Bruce Pluim the acting fire chief and he will continue in that capacity in a part-time role.Former Fire Chief Richard Zmuda was arrested last September for a theft that occurred while he was living in Pennsylvania. He resigned in the wake of that arrest. This afternoon the village’s police and fire commission will consider appointing Eric Westby and Alex Lindsley as lieutenants for the fire department.

International Migratory Bird Day Set In FDL

The Fond du Lac City Council recently approved a resolution proclaiming Saturday, May 7th as International Migratory Bird Day in the city. Public Works Director Jordan Skiff is one of the things they do as a participant in the Bird City Wisconsin program. The City has been in the program for five years. Skiff says preserving that segment of our environment and meeting the needs of citizens who really enjoy bird watching and promoting wildlife in general in our parks and natural areas is a priority for the city. He says in its application to the Bird City program this year the city highlighted some of its upcoming environmental efforts. He says that includes parts of the Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee recommendations that had to do with preserving natural space and the work that will be done to preserve wildlife in the new South Park Avenue Park.

FDL School Board Preview

The Fond du Lac School Board this afternoon is expected to approve revisions to the board’s policy on open enrollment. Changes were required to fit in with what was approved in the state budget. The board also has to designate the number of space it will allow in the district for regular education and special education through open enrollment. Also during the meeting District Superintendent Jim Sebert will remind the board that the deadline is coming up for enrollment in the Stem Institute’s program for 6th through 9th graders. That deadline is this Friday. The board meets at 5 p.m. at the District Administration Center Board Room.

Discover Moraine Park

Area residents will have the opportunity to Discover Moraine Park next month. MPTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Jim Eden says they will have opportunities on their three main campuses for high school students, displaced workers, and people looking to change their career to find out more about MPTC. He says as part of that activity they will waive their $30 application fee. Photo ID will be required. Eden says there are quite a few educational opportunities at MPTC.  “Discover Moraine Park” will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th at the West Bend campus; Wednesday, February 10th at the Fond du Lac campus; and Thursday, February 11th at the Beaver Dam campus.

Sheboygan County Airport Project Funding Announced

Governor Scott Walker recently approved a $1.8 million project at Sheboygan County Memorial Airport. During the project a taxiway will be reconstructed and lighting and signage will be replaced. The FAA will proved $1.6 million for the project with the state and county each providing a $90,000 match. Construction work will begin this spring and should be completed by the fall.
