Local News Briefs Monday 4/13/15

The Fond du Lac Plan Commission will hold a public hearing tonight for a new City ordinance that would allow bee keeping in residential areas of the City. The City Council has heard comments and information on bee keeping at its last two meetings. Also during the meeting the commission will consider the purchase of right of way land for a proposed right turn lane at the south driveway entrance of the Walmart. The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at the City-County Government Center.


Chegwin Principal Retiring

The Fond du Lac School Board tonight will consider the retirement of Chegwin Elementary School Principal Theresa Loehr. She has been with the school district the past 19 years, the last 15 years as principal at Chegwin. The school has won 11 consecutive New Wisconsin Promise School of Recognition Awards. In addition Loehr was named the Wisconsin Elementary Principal of the Year in 2013. Loehr will retire at the end of the current school year. Also during the meeting the board will consider approving the 4-year-old Learning Program Provider agreements something it does annually. The board meets at 5 p.m. at the District Administration Center Board Room on West 9th Street.


Spring Fish And Wildlife Rules Hearings Tonight

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Congress will hold their annual Spring Wildlife and Fisheries rules hearings in all 72 counties tonight. This year there are 112 questions that cover a broad array of statewide and local proposed rules changes for state hunting, trapping and fishing rules, as well as advisory questions. In Fond du Lac County the public hearing will be held at the Theisen Middle School at 7 p.m.


Search Continues For NFDL Fire Chief And EMS Director

After running through a pool of candidates for a Fire Chief and EMS Director, North Fond du Lac Village officials will start the process over. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says the recent effort did not turn out to be fruitful so they didn’t come up with a viable candidate. Seven people applied for the job. Hornung says for several years they’ve had separate people acting as Fire Chief and EMS Director. He says combining the responsibilities would help them with scheduling and staffing.


Ripon City Council Vacancy

The City of Ripon is accepting letters of interest from any resident of District 1 interested in serving on the Common Council. City Administrator Lori Rich says Councilman Deano Pape resigned because he and his wife are moving to Iowa. Pape has 11 months left in his term on Council running to next April. Those who are interested in the position are welcome to provide resumes, references or other material with their letter to help the council make its decision. The deadline for submitting letters to the City Hall is Friday, April 24th at 4:00 p.m. The appointment will be made during the Council’s May 12th meeting. Kids Can Earn Free Culvers Custard Through FDL Public Library Promotion

The Fond du Lac Public Library will hold a number of activities this week in honor of National Library Week, but kids will be more interested in the free custard offer. Culver’s and the Wisconsin Library Association are teaming up on the joint program. Kids ages 4 to 11 can pick up a special coloring sheet at the Children’s Desk this month. All they have to do is draw a picture about their favorite book, turn the picture in to the library and they get a coupon for a free scoop of custard redeemable at any Culver’s.
