It’s going to be a busy summer for street projects in Fond du Lac. Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says they will be complete piping for a new well that they put into the eastern portion of Lakeside Park last year. He says they will put a well house around the well along with public bathrooms, and the piping will run up to the water treatment plant on Merrill Street by getting their from Arndt Street. He says there are a number of street improvement projects as well. He says that includes segments of Boardman, Everett, Melrose Boulevard, a short segment of Macy and Rees, and Tompkins. Skiff says they will also do some preliminary work on Pioneer Road for the main project, which is next year. He says that segment next year will be by Mercury Marine and Fleet Farm, but this year water systems will be worked on.

Solutions Center Seeking New Location For Warming Shelter

After seven years at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Fond du Lac, Solutions Center is looking for another location for its warming shelter during the winter months. Executive Director Nicole Johnson says that’s because they’ve seen an increase in people using the shelter who have physical limitations. She says it was difficult for them to have climb up a staircase to the 2nd floor every night. She says they want to make sure those using the shelter can safely exit if there is a fire or some type of mishap. At the end of the past season 130 men and women had used the shelter compared to 108 the previous year. Johnson says there is a need for the homeless shelter program during the winter months so they will be looking for another location and anyone with ideas should contact them. Johnson will be a guest on the Morning Show with Bob Hoffmaster at 11:30 this morning.

Representative Thiesfeldt Talks About Presidential Race

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says if Donald Trump is elected President it will be the first time in on a long time that someone who has never held elected office has won the presidency. He says people may say Eisenhower, but he was in the military and we have had presidents with military backgrounds before. He says the last time someone with strictly a business background became president probably goes back into the 1800s. He says according to polls Trump wouldn’t be elected president, but he says polls are not a reliable indicator. He says the Electoral College wins the presidency, which is state-by-state. He says while Trump has emerged as the Republican candidate, Democrats are still battling it out. He says Hillary Clinton’s candidacy is affecting the candidacies of liberals in state legislative races. He says they are facing primaries because Bernie Sanders backers say Clinton isn’t liberal enough for them.
