Certified Copy Of Birth Certificate Needed More And More

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says if you don’t have a certified copy of your birth certificate it would be a good idea to get one. She says it’s something they require for people who are getting a marriage license and you will need one to get a driver’s license or a state photo ID. She says if you’re not sure about how to get one or were born out of state, she or Register of Deeds office can help you out. A driver’s license or state photo ID will be required to vote at the polls next month.

Free Leaf Collection In FDL Appreciated

Fond du Lac’s Public Works Director says some communities put the burden of fall leaf collection on their residents. Jordan Skiff says for instance in Eau Claire residents have to purchase bio-degradable bags to put the leaves in and contract someone to dispose of them. He says it prevents leaves from getting into storm sewers and some people opt to do their own composting. He says in Fond du Lac it’s a City service that people appreciate. The City’s annual leaf collection will begin on Monday, October 20th.

Overseeing Parking In FDL

One of the least known roles of Fond du Lac’s Community Development Director is parking czar in the City. Wayne Rollin retired Friday as the City’s Redevelopment Director. He says he did oversee the metered-parking and public parking efforts in downtown Fond du Lac. He says that’s quite a responsibility given the hundreds of businesses that rely on parking for their employees and customers. He says there are 300 independent businesses in the downtown. He says the City does a good job of overseeing the program and they may not make everyone happy, but they make sure metered parking, parking lots and street parking is available so people can do business downtown.

Awareness Also Helps United Way

Not all donations to the Fond du Lac Area United Way are done through the form of financial donations. United Way Executive Director Tina Potter says sometimes just creating a little awareness about what they are and what they do for the community spurs donations. She says last year the Fond du Lac YMCA and Boys & Girls Club held a United Way Week at the Y. Potter says this year’s fall fundraising campaign goal is to raise $745,000. As of late this week they had raised a little over $180,000.
