The 26-year-old Waupun man waived his preliminary hearing in a Dodge County Court this week on a child sexual assault charge.  Robert Moungey is facing one felony count.  According to a note allegedly provided to authorities by his wife, Cassandra Scheuers he had pornographic images of minors on his computer.  She also claimed that he engaged in inappropriate acts with an infant and forced her to have similar contact with a toddler.  He’ll be arraigned on July 22.  Scheuers has a status conference on July 6.

Waupun Winter Parking Ordinance Stays

The Waupun Common Council had a tight vote this week on whether or not to keep the city’s winter parking ordinance in place. It ended in a tie and Mayor Kyle Clark broke that tie by voting in favor of keeping the ordinance. The ordinance says no street or ally parking is allowed between 2 am- 6 am when it has snowed at least two inches.  Parking in city lots is also restricted during those hours between December and March except in places designated as ‘overnight off-street parking areas.’

FDL Ordinance Was Not Purged

Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore says by law they are not allowed to purge ordinances. During this week’s City Council meeting Moore responded to criticism that the City had purged a 1982 ordinance that had to do with property in Lakeside Park and the way the park could be used. He told the Council that he and staff researched Ordinance 1859 and found out that when the City was recodifying its code of ordinances in the early 1990’s, then City Attorney Tom Ahrens said the ordinance had never been included in the code. He says he and staff reached that same conclusion.

FDL PD Applies For Federal Grant

The Fond du Lac City Council this week approved allowing the Police Department to apply for a nearly $20,000 grant to buy some specialized equipment. Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry told the Council what the department would be specifically purchasing. He says that would include two portable wireless cameras, an evidence collection canopy, and 14 rife accessory kits in preparation for possible acts of violence in the community. Thiry says the nice thing about the grant is that it doesn’t require a local match and allows them to purchase equipment they don’t have money in their budget for.

Six Heat Related Deaths In FDL County Over The Past 33 Years

We are a couple days removed from Wisconsin Heat Awareness Day, but an officials with Wisconsin Emergency Management says it’s still a good time to reflect on what you should be doing during times of high heat and humidity. Tod Pritchard urges residents to learn the signs of heat cramps, exhaustion or stroke. He says more people die during heat waves than during any other type of weather event. Since 1982 Fond du Lac County has had 20 heat wave events and 6 deaths during those events.

Active School Board

Fond du Lac Schools Superintendent Jim Sebert says school board members took a real opportunity to be visible during the last few weeks of school. He says they are pretty active attending different school functions all year, but some end of the year programs drew more of them than usual. He notes six of the seven board members were at the high school graduation and five or six of them were present when the Acuity Grant awards were handed out. Several board members hugged a few graduates during the high school graduation. Sebert says he’s really proud of the board members participation in those types of events.
