FDL City Councilman Enjoyed Holding Meeting At FDL Public Library

For its meeting this past week and its next meeting on July 23rd the Fond du Lac City Council is holding its meetings at a different venue, the public library. That’s because the audio and video equipment in the legislative chambers is being upgraded. City Councilman Gary Miller says he rather enjoyed having their meeting at the library this week. One of the drawbacks is that the meeting couldn’t be broadcast live, but it was recorded and aired the next day on Charter Cable Channel 980. The meeting is also available as a podcast on the City website.

Summer A Busy Time For The Solutions Center

The interim executive director for the Solutions Center in Fond du Lac says summer is one of the busiest times of the year for their shelters. Maggie McCullough says for whatever reason those who are able to find shelter during the winter months aren’t as lucky during the summer. She says part of that is because more people are on the move during the summer months. She says their shelters were full in May and June. The Solutions Center’s shelters provide shelter to almost 550 men, women and children annually, including more than 100 victims of domestic violence.

Amity School Still Has A Use

Although the Waupun School District no longer uses it as a school the Amity School is still being used for educational purposes. District Superintendent Tonya Gubin says they quit using the country school a few years back. Now they lease it to CESA 6, which has found a use for it. CESA uses it as an alternative school for students with behavioral needs. She says the rent they get from CESA 6 helps defray operational costs for the building.
