Local News Briefs Saturday 7/26/14

Fond du Lac Police continue to urge residents to lock their doors and windows at night while they try to locate a man who entered two homes completely unclothed over the last month. Officer Steve Olson says the naked man got into the homes because they were unlocked. He says you should be in the habit of locking your doors whenever you leave your home. He also says if you happen think you’ve spotted the suspect call 9-1-1 because police are still trying to locate him. If you have possible information about the suspect you are urged to call Detective Steve Kaufman at 322-3725. Nothing was taken or broken during either incident.

Forest Mall Cinema Closes Sunday

The last of the original tenants of the Forest Mall in Fond du Lac closes this Sunday. The Forest Mall Cinema was one of the original tenants when the Mall opened in 1973. Officials with the mall issued a statement saying, “Forest Mall Cinema will close for business on Sunday, July 27. While we are very sorry to see them go, closures are part of the routine cycle of retail, and not reflective of the health of the shopping center. We wish to thank them for being a valued member of the Forest Mall family for so many years.”

Vandalism Reported In Sheboygan Falls

Sheboygan Falls Police are asking for help finding the persons responsible for vandalism in the City during the week of June 25th through the 30th. Lawn ornaments and potted flowers were damaged, tires were slashed, sugar was placed in gas tanks, and greenhouses were damaged at the Sheboygan Falls High School. It occurred during night time hours. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheboygan County Crime Stoppers program at 1-877-283-8436.

On The Job Training Important

Apprenticeships and on the job training will be some of the components for workers who will be trained through Moraine Park Technical College as part of a state grant program. MPTC was awarded a $1.2 million grant through the Wisconsin Fast Forward program. It will help fill the need for skilled workers in the manufacturing and health care fields. MPTC President Sheila Ruhland  says they know from boot camps associated with welding and computer numerical control machining how valuable on the job training can be. The grant will help pay for the costs of training up to 126 employees through 2016.

AirVenture Gets Underway Monday

A spokesman for EAA AirVenture says if you have to pick and choose the times you attend the annual aviation celebration in Oshkosh next week try to make one of their night air shows. Dick Knapinski says it’s something even veteran attendees of the annual event rave about. He says they will have night air shows next Wednesday and Saturday and they will have some things they’ve never had before. About 10,000 planes fly in for AirVenture. It has an economic impact on the state of about $110 million and creates about 1,400 jobs. During opening day Monday Kenny Loggins will perform after the afternoon air show about 6 p.m. He’s known for hits like “I’m Allright,” “Footloose,” and “Danger Zone.”

Car-A-Funda Sunday At Lakeside Park

The annual Car-A-Funda Charity Car Show will be held at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac this weekend. It’s from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Those attending the Car-A-Funda are asked to make a $2 donation when they enter the park. It will be used to help “With a Little Help, Inc.” which uses the money to send people with neuromuscular diseases to summer camp. There will be food and refreshments, raffles and prize drawings and music. The Fondy Vintage Auto Club and “With a Little Help, Inc.” are sponsoring the event.
