Education A Tool In Preventing Sexual Assault
Education is one of the tools a new team in Fond du Lac County will use to help prevent sexual assault in the Taycheedah Correctional Institution. Sandy Hardie of ASTOP Sexual Abuse Center of Fond du Lac has been working with inmates at Taycheedah since 2007. She says sexual abuse is something that shouldn’t happen no matter on the street or in prison. She says education is one of the tools they need to use to get that message across. In addition to Taycheedah Correctional and ASTOP, St. Agnes Hospital, Community Corrections, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, Fond du Lac Police Department, and District Attorney’s Office are members of the special team.
Yellowstone Trail Plaque
An information plaque will be put in near the Caboose and Yellowstone Trail Park area of North Fond du Lac. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says they do have a big wooden sign pointing out the connection to the Yellowstone Trail that extends to the West Coast. He says the North Fond du Lac Optimists offered to put in an information plaque on an elevated stand. He says the plaque will talk about the history of trains in the village and the Yellowstone Trail.
Let’s Do The Twist
Following on the heels of last week’s Cookie Daze in Ripon plans are underway to try and break a World’s Record. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says a number of years ago they baked the largest chocolate chip cookie, which was part of Cookie Daze. Last week’s celebration was the 19th for the event. He says next month they are asking people to put on their dancing shoes during Septemberfest. He says they want to try and break the World Record for the most people doing the twist at the same time and will have appropriate music for the effort.
