More charges have been brought against the former instructional aide at the North Fond du Lac High School who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student. Dominic Carmona was originally charged with seven counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff. The complaint has been amended to include seven counts of child enticement. Carmona was arraigned in Fond du Lac County Court Wednesday and pled not guilty to all 14 charges. The 45-year-old Oshkosh man had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl beginning last December 1st and ending at the end of January. The two allegedly met during a study hall and he gave her his cell phone number. He resigned from his position with the school district on February 3rd. He was a teacher at Horace Mann High School for nearly 5 years.

DA Says Shooter Sentencing Was Strong

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says the sentencing of a 23-year-old Fond du Lac man for shooting another man in the leg sends a message. James Tucker, Jr. was sentenced to 11 years in prison and 6 years of extended supervision. Toney says community members are concerned about the number of shootings that occurred last year in Fond du Lac. He says it was a strong sentencing from the judge for a person who had on prior criminal record. He says it’s the type of behavior the community won’t put up with. Toney says it could have been a much more tragic situation if a stray bullet had gone in a different direction. The victim, a 19-year-old Chicago Illinois man, was treated at St. Agnes Hospital and released.

New Charges Against Former Sheboygan Alderman

Six new charges have been filed against former Sheboygan Alderman Kevin Matichek who allegedly had sex with underage males. According to the criminal complaint Matichek allegedly had sex with an 18-year-old man in exchange for his support on the man’s bartender license, which was up for approval by the Sheboygan Common Council in September of 2013. He’s been charged with accepting a bribe for that. Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco says the victim was one of a number of young males who came forward after media coverage of Matichek was charged with repeated sexual assault of a minor. Matichek was also charged yesterday with five counts of possession of child pornography. It was found on his phone. He has a preliminary hearing on the latest charges April 15th. A status conference on the original charge is scheduled next Monday.

Dodge County Authorities Charge Oshkosh Man With Seventh OWI

Bond was set at $15,000 cash when a 41-year-old Oshkosh man was charged in Dodge County Court this week with his seventh operating while intoxicated offense. According to the criminal complaint Daniel Wittrock passed out behind the wheel of his car after parking in a private driveway in the Town of Theresa. The car was running when a sheriff’s deputy tried to wake him. Unable to get him to exit the vehicle the County Dispatch Center got his cell phone number. Deputies called him to get him to leave the car. He was confused and swaying and they were unable to do a field sobriety test with him. Wittrock allegedly admitted to taking several prescription drugs. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week. 

Waupun Woman Suspected Of Stealing From Employer

A 34-year-old Waupun woman is suspected of stealing $2,800 worth of flea and tick collar product from her former employer. Sara Steppke was working for Veterinary Village in Lomira when the theft occurred. She’s been charged with felony theft in Dodge County Court. According to the criminal complaint she tried to sell the stolen items online, but the manufacturer tracked the product through lot numbers. She denied the theft when her employer let her go, but later admitted to it when interviewed by police. She will make her initial court appearance on April 20th.

Trooper Casper Will Be Honored In 2016

Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor Casper will be honored with his name included in Law Enforcement Memorial ceremonies in Madison and Washington, D.C. but not until May of 2016. Casper will be honored among the officers killed in the line of duty at the Nation’s capitol on May 13th of 2016 and at the state ceremony on May 20th of 2016. Trooper Casper was killed in a shootout with a bank robbery suspect in Fond du Lac on Tuesday, March 24th.

Congressman Grothman Interested In Clinton Emails

Congressman Glenn Grothman says it will be interesting to see what comes of the private emails Hillary Clinton is releasing from her time as Secretary of State. Grothman says in particular he’d like to know about emails linked to donations to the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. He says some of those emails may have been deleted. The federal lawmaker from Campbellsport says if foreign government officials were promised something in return for a donation to the foundation that should be known. He says it certainly bears some looking into. The foundation promotes the improvement of global health, strengthening economies and protecting the environment.

Utility Scam Hits FDL

An Alliant Energy official says a utility scam hitting the Fond du Lac area is something they’ve seen in other areas of the state and country. Ann Marie Newman says someone posing as an Alliant employee calls people and tells them they are delinquent on their Wisconsin Power and Light bill and need to pay it immediately. They tell the customer to go out and buy a green dot card or debit card and call them back with the number. She says that’s not something Alliant would do. She says call Alliant at 1-800-Alliant and they will verify the status of your account. She says they got complaints from Fond du Lac customers Tuesday about the scam. They received three calls from Fond du Lac. Newman says scammers have gotten very sophisticated spoofing Alliant on caller ID and even copying their automated call menu in case your return their call.  By the way the state’s heating moratorium is in effect until April 15th so your power can’t be turned off before then even if you are delinquent on your bill.

Holocaust Survivor Speaks At UW FDL Today

Eva Schloss, Holocaust survivor and Anne Frank’s stepsister and childhood friend, will give a presentation at UW-Fond du Lac in the Prairie today from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.  The theater seating is sold out!!  Only those with a ticket will be seated in the Prairie Theater.  However, additional seating will be available on a first come/first served basis in the LGI Room (UC-113/114) at the university where a live video feed of the presentation will be shown.  Doors will open at Noon. Since 1985, Schloss has devoted herself to Holocaust education and global peace. She has recounted her wartime experiences in more than 1,000 speaking engagements. She has written three books and a play has been written about her life. She currently resides in London. UW-Fond du Lac is one of five universities collaborating to bring Schloss to the area. The UW-Fond du Lac student Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee and the Fine Arts and Lecture Committee are sponsoring this presentation.

Burning Permits

The Division Chief of Fire Prevention for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue says to check first to see if you need a burning permit to burn on your property. Troy Haase says people have gotten burning permits through them. He says they will check your site and make sure it’s safe and not too close to buildings and structures. He says that also lets them know when you’re burning in case they get reports about a fire. He says that way they don’t unnecessarily send a fire crew out. He says most of the permits they authorize are for people who are burning off a part of their lawn and not something you can take to the City’s yard waste drop-off site.

Employment Fair At The End Of The Month In Oshkosh

The Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh will host an employment fair on April 30th. “We’ll be hosting a wide array of businesses that are seeking qualified candidates and we are very pleased to connect them with job seekers,” said Paul Stelter, CEO for Fox Valley Workforce Development Board. The fair will have a unique schedule; job seekers who are military veterans will be able to enter the job fair at 10 a.m. and doors will open to the general public at 10:30.  The fair will conclude at 2 p.m. The fair will feature a wide mix of available positions including office, service, manufacturing, skilled, healthcare, and professional positions.
