FDL County Board Moves Start Time For Monthly Meeting

The Fond du Lac County Board will be holding their regular meetings at a new time starting next month. The board will be meeting at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says it’s the first change in meeting time for the board since they moved their meetings from a start time of 7:30 about eight years ago. She says the Fond du Lac City Council changed their meeting time to 6 p.m. about a year ago and saw an increase in the number of people attending meetings. She says some people have complained to her about the meetings starting so late. Freiberg says in a straw vote 13 supervisors preferred a 6 p.m. starting time, 4 were in favor of 6:30, 7 preferred to keep it at 7, and one supervisor had no preference in the starting time. She believes it will be a good move.

Feingold Says Attack Ads Are Not Accurate About Tomah

Former U.S. Senator Russ Feingold says contrary to some TV ads he did not know about the overprescribing of medications at the VA Medical Clinic in Tomah until after he was out of office. He says the attack ads made up a story about his office being notified about it in 2009, which has been discredited. He says it wasn’t until he was out of office that the first emails about the problem were sent out. He says that was in 2011 and the tragic death of an individual at Tomah occurred in 2014 and Senator Ron Johnson’s Office was notified of it but he didn’t act on it. Feingold says the problem at Tomah shouldn’t be a political football. He says it should be about veterans getting the health care that they need and deserve. Feingold is challenging Johnson this fall for the Senate seat.

STAAND Making A Difference

Students with the Fond du Lac High School chapter of STAAND or Students Taking Action Against Negative Decisions believe their educational efforts are having a positive impact on other students. Baeley Hansen is a senior at the high school she says you can have a good time without taking drugs or drinking alcohol. She says a survey showed less than 30 percent of students had a drink in the past 30 days. STAAND Coordinator Megan Harshbarger says the first survey was done about 10 years ago and at the time 40 percent of students said they had not had a drink in the past 30 days. She says now that number is at about 76 to 77 percent, which she is quite an improvement and prove that messages like STAAND’s are getting through.

An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection cautions state residents not to fall for Ransomware. Frank Frassetto says it can be accomplished through phishing, vishing and smishing or through email, your phone or text messaging. He says it’s about getting personal information and it asks people to update, validate or confirm various accounts. He says it usually involves clicking on a link.
