Public
Hearing On The FDL
County
Budget Tonight

The Fond du Lac County
Board will hold a public hearing tonight at 7:30 for the proposed 2016 County Budget.
Their regular meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will include a presentation by
County Clerk Lisa Freiberg and Chad Trice of Command Central on the County’s
new election equipment. County
Executive
Al Buechel says
it was a good time to schedule the presentation. He says company
representatives are in town anyway to train municipal clerks on the new
machines the next day. Buechel says next Tuesday the Board will meet again and
it will be at that time that they approve the budget and tax levy for 2016.
Tonight’s meeting will be at the City-County
Government Center
in Fond du Lac.

Waupun
Schools Referendum

The Waupun School
District
is about a year away from staging a
facilities referendum. District Superintendent Tonya Gubin says right now they
are concentrating on looking at their facilities needs. She says quite a few
community members have gotten involved in their facilities committee. She says
there are about 40 people on that committee and they have been really
supportive. Gubin says in 2018 they will be retiring the debt from a $30
million referendum that built the high school. She says if another referendum
is passed before that taxpayers would still see a smaller levy. She says 20
years after that referendum now would be a good time to do something about
their aging facilities.

Winter
Safety Reminders

Now that we
are into the heating and nearing the holiday season the Division Chief of Fire
Prevention for Fond du Lac
Fire and Rescue has some safety reminders. Troy Haase says in carbon monoxide
detectors should be placed on each floor and make sure one is in a room near
the furnace. He says you should also check to make sure your furnace isn’t
leaking carbon monoxide and that the furnace exhaust outside the home is clear.
He suggest never using a kitchen oven or stove as a way to stay warm. He says more
people use candles during the holidays. He recommends burning them on top of
the stove or a non-flammable surface where there’s no chance of them tipping
over or being knocked over. He also says you should never leave a candle
unattended.
