Council Members Does Not Like Term Limits But Accepts Them

Fond du Lac City Council Vice President Gary Miller will reach a term limit in a couple of months. Miller has served three consecutive two-year terms, which means he has reached a term limit. He says he doesn’t support term limits. He says an effort a few years ago to research term limits went no where. Miller says while he doesn’t like term limits he’s fine with reaching his own term limit. He says at this point in his life he’s not sure he would want to serve another term. Miller says he’s also not pleased that the Council has been operating with only six members since Brian Foster resigned in October. He says it could result in tie votes, which has happened in the past when the Council operated with six Council members.

Ballweg Introduces Sexual Assault Amnesty Bill

State Representative Joan Ballweg recently introduced legislation which would give amnesty to sexual victims who had been drinking and are under age. She says the state attorney general says 75 percent of all sexual assaults involve alcohol and sometimes the perpetrator uses alcohol as a tool. The state lawmaker from Markesan says the bill would also give amnesty to underage drinkers who came to the victim’s assistance or witnessed the crime. Ballweg says the victim goes through a variety of emotions and should not have to worry about losing their college housing or face being kicked out of a program because they were drinking. Senator Jerry Petrowski is the Senate author of the bill. It has the backing of the State Attorney General Brad Schimel, U-W Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, U-W Madison Assistant Police Chief Kari Sasso and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
