Fire In St Anna Trailer Park

Half a dozen fire departments responded to a fire in the St. Anna Trailer Park Monday afternoon. Town of Calumet Fire Department was one of the fire departments that responded to the structure fire at W1373 County Highway H in Lot 9. St. Anna, New Holstein, Chilton, Elkhart Lake, and Kiel Fire Departments also responded.

Senator Johnson Comments On American Deaths In Brussels

Senator Ron Johnson Monday commented on the deaths of four Americans in the Brussels, Belgium bombings. Johnson says, “With a weekend bombing in Pakistan coming on the heels of last week’s attack in Brussels — which we now know included the slaughter of four Americans — we have further proof that Islamic terrorists are not going away.  This will be a long struggle, and we must recognize that the strategy of peace through withdrawal has been a miserable failure.”  Johnson is the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Wife Of Supreme Court Justice Campaigns For Cruz

One of those stumping for Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign says he’s continued the battle in Washington against the Obama Administration when other Republican’s sat on the sidelines. Ginni Thomas is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and a contributor to the political site Daily Caller. Thomas told KFIZ News Republicans lost the battle when it came to Obamacare, but that could change if Cruz is elected president. Thomas says Cruz could also do something about the EPA and federal regulations, which are holding back the economy. During a stop in Oshkosh last week Cruz also talked about Social Security, Immigration and implementing a flat tax.

NFDL School District Fundraising Methods Changing

North Fond du Lac Schools Superintendent Aaron Sadoff says the district is developing a better way to raise funds for some of their efforts. He says they want to revolutionize the way they fundraise, but also bring more value to the people who invest in them. He says there is a sponsorship drive underway and they will also do a calendar raffle. Only a thousand calendars will be available and sponsorships will be available for the calendars. Sadoff says it’s an exciting opportunity. He says they will continue to be involved in efforts like the Oriole Open Golf Tournament with the Police Benevolent Association. This year’s open is on August 4th and 5th. 

Habitat Groundbreaking Saturday

Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County will hold a groundbreaking in Fond du Lac Saturday morning for their 27th home build. Board of Directors President Julie Woznick says it will be at 471 West Division Street at 11 a.m. She says the public is welcome to come and meet their partner family and see the ground they will be building on. Woznick says they are also planning on building a home in Ripon this year. She says that build might be sponsored by Flood Homes, but it is something they are still working on.

Teams Forming For Walk MS FDL

Marian University in Fond du Lac will host a Walk MS or multiple sclerosis event on Saturday, May 7th. Other walks are scheduled in Sheboygan and Oshkosh. The walks raise money for MS-related services and research, and help those affected by the disease connect with each other. The goal for the Fond du Lac event is to raise $37,000. The event in Sheboygan is at Blue Harbor Resort on Sunday, April 24th. The event in Oshkosh is at Oshkosh West High School on September 18th.  Wisconsin is believed to have one of the higher prevalence rates of MS in the nation with more than 11,000 children, women and men statewide diagnosed.

Another Successful Denim And Pearls

More than $17,000 was raised at the recent Foundation for Ripon Medical Center’s Denim & Pearls event. That will help support the development of a wellness walkway on the Ripon Medical Center campus. The walkway will be open to the community to enjoy. “This year’s Denim & Pearls offered an incredible evening of fun and camaraderie with individuals that are truly supportive of Ripon Medical Center” says Holly Brenner, Foundation for Ripon Medical Center executive director.
