A 46-year-old sex offender moves to Oshkosh. Robert Wastel will be living at 2521 Harrison Street. In 2000 he was convicted of 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child for sexually assaulting a minor girl he knows. Wastel will be on GPS monitoring. He will be supervised by the State’s Corrections Department for the next 16 years.
FDL County Board Preview
The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will be asked to approve a development agreement and lease agreement for an 84-bed student housing facility on the UW-Fond du Lac campus. If approved the facility would be constructed and open in time for the 2015 fall semester. Supervisors will also be asked to approve a 1.5 percent wage increase for registered nurses, psychiatrists, pathologists, dispatchers, social workers, an Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center and Department of Community Programs Acute Unit employees. The increase would be retroactive to January 5th. The board meets at 7 p.m. at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.
Party Patrols
Law enforcement agencies across Fond du Lac County will be cracking down on underage drinking and social hosting during party patrols over the next three weekends. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says with Prom and Graduations coming up their goal is educate underage people and to crackdown on parties where alcohol is served. He says 1 in 6 youth in the County reported being in a car during the last 30 days where the driver had been drinking. He says the number of adults in the County who binge drink is also higher than the national average 22 percent compared to the national average of 16. He says they are also cracking down on people providing alcohol to underage persons or host parties where there are underage drinkers. Olig says on the other hand they encourage non-drinking events like post Prom and Graduation parties. Over the next three weekends nine area high schools will be holding proms.
Arc Of FDL Developing 24/7 Respite House
For the first time in its history the Arc of Fond du Lac this summer will be able to offer 24/7 respite care for people will be special needs. Arc Executive Director David Boelter says they do provide those services during the day, but never overnight and on the weekends. He says the loved ones of people with special needs deserve a break from the care they provide and that’s what the respite home will provide. The Fond du Lac Area Foundation provided the Arc with a Community Impact Grant of $125,000 for the respite home. Arc special living services director Luke Moraski says it will be a four-bed home. Boelter says it will be called the Fond du Lac Area Foundation Arc Respite House.
Brat Fry At FDL S. Main Fire Station For The American Red Cross
The Fond du Lac Fire Department holds its annual brat fry to help out the American Red Cross today at the fire station on S. Main Street. Hours for the brat fry are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says it’s the least they can do to help out an organization that provides so much support to firefighters and fire victims at fire scenes. If you call in an order of 20 items or more by 9 a.m. you can get them delivered to your business. Call the orders in to 322-3800. Brat and burgers are $3 each. Science Day At Rock River Intermediate School
The 110 4th grade students at Rock River Intermediate School in Waupun will be enjoying Science Day at the school today. Students will participate in four presentations led by science experts from the UW-Madison. UW-Madison students that are members of Bucky’s Workshop will also be helping with the event. The presenters will demonstrate the use of the eight scientific and engineering practices found in the Next Generation Science Standards. Science Day is driven by The Wisconsin Idea, the principle that the university should improve people’s lives beyond the classroom.
Journeys Open House Tonight
Agnesian HealthCare’s Journeys will hold an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight. The health resource center will feature many activities during the free open house. That will include artwork by local artist, Amy Jarvis, free massages by No Knots Therapeutic Massage, LLC, and visits with Fond du Lac Public Library staff. In addition there will be an opportunity to meet Journeys class instructors on important health topics, such as gentle yoga, CARDIO+Core, prepared childbirth, breastfeeding and Safe Sitter. Refreshments will be served. Journeys is located at St. Agnes Hospital on East Division Street in Fond du Lac.
