Oshkosh Man Threatens To Blow Up Home

Oshkosh Police say a 53-year-old Oshkosh man who threatened to kill himself  by blowing up his house had manipulated the gas service inside the home. The incident in the 1200 block of Eastman Street Saturday night ended without incident, but neighboring homes had to be evacuated as a precaution. The man is facing disorderly conduct and endangering safety charges.

Fire In Town Of Sheboygan Leads To Evacuation

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say homes in a two block radius were evacuated when it was learned that a shed on fire in the Town of Sheboygan possibly contained liquid propane tanks. No one was injured in the blaze in the 3600 block of North 17th Street. The work shed and its contents were completed destroyed by the fire. The origin of the fire is being determined, but it is not considered suspicious. 

Voting Reminders

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg reminds voter to have a picture ID if you’re going to vote today. She says a driver’s license or passport will work the best. She says you can register to vote if you need to, but you will need proof of residency. She says a driver’s license works or you can take a current utility bill or something that shows where you’re living. She also reminds us that you can only vote one party during this election. She says you will see that near the top of the ballot.

Firehouse And Polling Location

Fire Station #1 on South Main Street in Fond du Lac will be a bit busier than usual today because it also serves as the polling place for City Wards 5 and 6 during elections. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they don’t mind the extra activity around the station house. He says people stop and look at the pictures on the wall and ask questions, sometimes they bring their children or grandchildren and want a tour of the station. He says it’s one of the things that makes America great. He says they are glad to be a part of the voting process and are happy to see people exercise that right.

Meeting Scheduled On 23 And K Improvements

The state’s Department of Transportation has scheduled a public information meeting on the State Highway and County Highway K project. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 14th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the UW-Fond du Lac, University Commons Rooms UC 113 and 114.  There will be a short presentation at 5:15 p.m., followed by an open-house format. Mark Kantola of the DOT says officials from the City and County will also be on hand to answer questions. Improvements will include slotted left turn lanes on Highway 23 at County Highway K. Installation of right turn islands on County K and removal of the median crossover immediately to the west of the intersection. Construction will happen this fall.

Wings For All

Arc of Fond du Lac Executive Director David Boelter says 100 seats are available next month for the Wings for All program. He says it will give families of people with special needs the chance to practice what their loved ones would face if they were going to participate in air travel. He says you don’t have to be an Arc client to participate. He says those who would like to participate should give the Arc a call at 923-3810. The Wings for All program will be held at Appleton International Airport on Saturday, May 14th. Delta and United each have provided a jet for the training.

Spring Fish And Wildlife Hearings Next Monday

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress and Department of Natural Resources will hold their spring fish and wildlife hearings in all 72 counties next Monday night at 7 p.m. In Fond du Lac County the meeting will be at the Theisen Middle School in Fond du Lac. In Dodge County the hearing will be at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. This year there are 12 DNR and Natural Resources Board questions, and the Conservation Congress has 33 advisory questions. Among the proposals are creating a Senior Citizen Conservation Patronage License, banning lead fishing tackle and lead shot on DNR managed lands, and a proposal to increase hunting, fishing, and trapping license fees.
