Alliant Energy Files Request For Rate Increase

Alliant Energy has filed a request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to adjust electric and natural gas rates. Under the proposal, a typical electric residential customer using 700 kilowatt hours a month would see a phased-in increase of 4.7 percent, or $4.39/month by 2018. A residential natural gas customer using 772 therms a year would see an increase of 7.6 percent, or $3.47 a month by 2018. These rates, if approved, would still be lower than 2010 levels. The Public Service Commission is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. If approved the rates would become effective January 1, 2017, and extend until the end of 2018.

The Fond du Lac School Board Monday night approved Acuity Fund Grants Awards. He says board members will be surprising winning teachers at their schools and some time after that a press release will be put out listing the winners and unique instructional programs they proposed. This was the second year for the program and Sebert says the excitement over it seems to be building each year.

Referendum On Social Security A Scam

Fond du Lac Police Officer Erik Foster says there is a new scam targeting senior citizens. He says materials are being sent out in the mail about a Fond du Lac County referendum on Social Security. He says it’s supposedly sent out by the “Seniors Center,” as opposed to the “Senior Center” that Fond du Lac does have. He says it asks for a $22 donation for a referendum. He says he called the phone number listed in the information about the referendum and found the person listed knew nothing about it. He says if you’re not sure whether it’s a scam you can call the number in the mailing or the police department, but it is a scam. Foster says the real Fond du Lac Senior Center Director, Cathy Loomans, informed him about the scam.

Senator Baldwin Visits Sheboygan Lakefront

United States Senator Tammy Baldwin was in Sheboygan over the weekend to tour the lakefront and talk about her plans to support waterfront development and cleanup efforts.  The Waterfront Community Revitalization and Resiliency Act has been working its way through the Senate for the past year, and Baldwin says the way that America uses its lakefront and waterfront has changed, “Industry has changed.  We’ve cleaned up a lot of those waterways, and there’s demand for public access for fishing, for kayaking, canoeing, other recreation opportunities.” Money from that bill would allow communities to plan for the future to clean up and develop their waterfronts.
