The State Patrol has released the name of the 58-year-old Waupun man killed in a traffic accident near Waupun Saturday morning. Richard Johnson was driving south on Highway 26 about a half mile north of Highway 151 in Dodge County when he crossed over into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle. He was taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital where he died. The 16-year-old girl from Capron, Illinois driving the other vehicle was taken to the UW-Hospital in Madison with life-threatening injuries. Her name was not released due to her age.

Sheboygan Drug Store Robbed

(WHBL-Sheboygan)-The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a robbery at Glander Drug Store in the Town of Sheboygan Sunday.  Captain Dave Adams said the incident occurred just before the store opened at 9 a.m. when a man wearing a blue bandana entered a service door, confronted several employees and demanded drugs.  After getting some items, he left the store, removed some outer clothing, and was last seen heading southwest towards Wilgus Avenue. The suspect is described as white, six foot tall with a medium build, weighing approximately 200 pounds.  He was wearing a dark colored hat, sunglasses, a dark colored shirt or jacket, and gray or olive colored pants.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 920-459-3114, or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-238-8436.


Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee Meets

Although there aren’t any Fond du Lac City Council members sitting on the Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee several Council members could be present when the committee meets for the first time tonight. The committee will meet at 6 p.m. in Rooms D and E of the City-County Government Center. They will learn their responsibilities and guidelines. Also during the meeting they will choose a chairperson and vice-chairperson and discuss meetings and locations. Following the meeting they will tour Lakeside Park. The committee has 17 members.

Gudex Heads TIF Panel

State Senator Rick Gudex is heading a legislative panel that’s looking at ways to make Tax Incremental Finance or TIF districts more effective for municipalities. The state lawmaker from Fond du Lac says the committee isn’t made up of just legislators. He says it also includes people who work with TIFs on a day-to-day basis like Fond du Lac’s Director of Administration Hal Worthman. He says for municipalities TIF districts are the only development tool a municipality has. He says a lot of entities have a stake in it however such as the school district, technical colleges, the county, the city and taxpayers. One of the successful bills Gudex had a hand in creating allowed TIF districts to reset their value if they were failing. He says the majority of those 50 TIFs that qualified suffered during the 2009-2010 recession.

Marian Ranked On Career Success List

Educate to Career (ETC) has identified Marian University within the top 100 as one of the best colleges for career success list.  Marian University ranks no. 96, and is rated among more than 1,200 public and private 4-year colleges and universities across the nation. Michael Havis, founder of Educate to Career says, “We calculate the improvement in earnings and employability of persons who attended specific colleges, relative to persons who are similarly situated in other colleges.” The rankings system, or the ETC Index, analyzes data for over 1,200 colleges, representing 94% of all students enrolled in 4 year colleges. MPTC Building Transfer Agreements With 4-Year Schools

Moraine Park Technical College is working towards agreements with more 4-year school to make their credits for associate degrees transferable towards a bachelor’s degree. Vice President of Academic Affairs Jim Eden says they are doing that with a couple of schools for their associate degree nursing program. He says in addition to nursing they have other programs that are transferable. He says some engineering and business management programs are other good examples. He says there are plenty of opportunities for transfers after two years programs to other schools. He says they have agreements with more than 20 schools around the state including the UW-Green Bay and UW-Oshkosh. He says the next step is to make the transferring of credits more seamless.

Arc Golf Outing Raised Over $43,000

The Arc of Fond du Lac’s Annual Golf Outing earlier this month was a huge fundraising success. The August 3rd outing raised over $43,000 for the Arc of Fond du Lac. Arc Executive Director David Boelter says about 170 people attend the event at Whispering Springs. He says the event is run very well and the public seems to enjoy it. He says it included a steak fry and 50/50 raffle. The Arc is in its 51st year of advocating and serving those with special needs and the developmentally disabled. They work with over 750 clients a year.

Hear Cancer Survivor’s Story At Agnesian

Agnesian HealthCare invites area residents to join them on Tuesday, September 9 to hear a local cancer survivor’s story, as well as have the opportunity to meet Filip Trocki, MD, a radiation oncologist with the Agnesian Cancer Center. The free event is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. in Agnesian HealthCare’s Plaza Level Conference Center, 430 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac. It will also feature food, refreshments and giveaways. Celebrate the kickoff of the 2014 Pink Glove Dance as they debut Agnesian HealthCare’s video entry, starring local cancer survivors and community members. As part of a nationwide video contest to raise breast cancer awareness, videos with the most public votes will win $50,000 in prizes to donate to a cancer charity of choice. Windy Dinner THELMA Style Tickets Available

Rick and Pat Miller have been named co-chairs of the 14th annual Windy Dinner THELMA Style, the largest fundraising event for Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA). The dinner is set for Wednesday, October 8th. Rick and Pat Miller own four Culver’s Restaurants in the area and are no strangers to community service. Habitat for Humanity, Agnesian HealthCare, Volunteer Center, Wisconsin Restaurant Association, the Fond du lac Area Foundation, the Women’s Fund, and of course, THELMA, are just some of the organizations in which they are or have been involved.

“The Windy Dinner has always been such an entertaining event,” said Pat Miller. “Now with the stunning backdrop of THELMA, the event has only gotten better.” The evening includes a full agenda including cocktails, dinner, auctions, and entertainment.
