Samaritan House Raffle
Someone will have a tough decision to make early this afternoon. Take a $269,000 home or $134,500 in cash! The annual 17th annual Samaritan Health Clinic House Raffle drawing is today at Noon. Over $14,000 in other cash and prizes will also be awarded this afternoon. This year’s home is being built by Dream Builders and is located west of Fond du Lac on Hideaway Lane. You can get there by taking Highway 23 West to Esterbrook Road, then right on County Road Rogersville Road, then follow the signs to Wildwest Lane, which splits into Hideaway Lane. Raffle Co-Chair Gary Deitte of Holiday Automotive says the house is a 2248 square foot ranch with three car garage with basement entry. He says proceeds from the raffle benefit the Samaritan Free Health Clinic in Fond du Lac. You can still buy tickets this morning for $50 each or four for $150 until 9:30am at St. Agnes or at the house after that. KFIZ’s Bob Hoffmaster broadcast live from the raffle house from 9:30am to Noon. Wade Bates will be on hand to announce the winners live on KFIZ at 12:05pm.
Oakfield Superintendent An Experienced Educator
Oakfield’s new superintendent of schools brings a lot of experience with her. Sue Green became the district’s new superintendent in July. She has 36 years of educational experience including time in the Beloit School District as a special education teacher and director of special education for 10 years. She also was an elementary principal for 9 years. Her undergraduate work and master’s degree were earned at the UW-Whitewater and her administration certification was through the UW-Madison. As for becoming the Oakfield Schools Superintendent, she says that’s an interesting story. She says she met some people from Oakfield who told her about the job and encouraged her to apply for it. Green is Janesville native.
CSI Waupun
High School students in the Waupun School District’s Project Lead the Way program are getting a CSI-like experience in the classroom. Waupun Schools Superintendent Tonya Gubin says they got a $25,000 grant from Monsanto to use for strengthening their science or math programming. She says that allowed them to buy materials needed for the special course. When students walked into the classroom they were confronted with a simulated dead body and the mystery of how that death came about. She says it is a unique way to teach students about problem solving, science and human anatomy.
FDL Police Officer Honored
Fond du Lac police officer Cammie Vandermolen was recently named a Merit Award Winner by the Wisconsin Association of Women Police at the Wisconsin Association of Women Police Annual Fall Luncheon on October 11th in Madison. The award recognizes a female Police Officer who distinguishes herself by superior accomplishments or continuing long term involvement in, or leadership of projects, which make a significant contribution to the public safety or to law enforcement. Officer Vandermolen was nominated for this recognition by her Shift Commander, Captain Aaron Goldstein for her outstanding work in working with youth in our community.
Grant Will Help Build Aviation Business Park In Oshkosh
The City of Oshkosh and Winnebago County were recently awarded a $2 million public works grant for an 81 acre aviation business park in Oshkosh. It will be built off the Southeast corner of Wittman Regional Airport. The grant was awarded by the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. According to an economic impact study done by the UW Extension the park could create up to 236 jobs over a ten year period with an annual economic impact of $73 million.
