Rifle Use During Gun Deer Season

The DNR conservation warden for the Waupun area advises checking with County officials to see what rules apply for the use of rifles in the area you will be hunting during the gun-deer season. A new rule went into effect November 1st that allow the use of rifles during the gun-deer season something not previously allowed in some counties like Fond du Lac County where only shotguns could be used.  Ben Nadolski says there have been arguments over the years about the safety of shotguns versus rifle use during the season. He says about 15 years ago he investigated a hunting death during the gun-deer season involving the use of a shotgun. He says slugs from shotguns will travel further than people think they can, but there’s no conclusive evidence that shotguns are safer. The Town of Eldorado will hold a meeting Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Community Center to discuss a possible ordinance that would restrict the use of rifles during the gun-deer season.
