Bicycles On Sidewalks Issue

downtown sidewalks and across the City. Jordan Skiff says business owners

riding on sidewalks in residential neighborhoods. Currently the City has a
survey posted on its website asking people what they think about the issue. The

Mayville Man Charged For
Driving Drunk And Hitting A Pedestrian
Charges have been brought
against a 50-year-old Mayville man suspected of driving drunk and hitting two
parked cars and a pedestrian last weekend. Bruce Stoy was charged in Dodge
County Court this week. According to police after hitting the two parked cars
on
last Friday night Stoy drove up on a sidewalk and hit the pedestrian before
crashing into a snowbank. The victim suffered cuts and abrasions, but refused
treatment. A preliminary breath test put Stoy’s blood alcohol level at nearly
twice the legal limit. A $10,000
signature bond was set and a preliminary hearing will be held in April.
Bicyclist Wedged In Windshield
(WHBL-Sheboygan)-A
20-year-old
man is free on a signature bond on charges that he struck a bicyclist, lodged
him through his broken windshield, and hit another vehicle. Jamie Hang made his initial court appearance

on felony charges of reckless endangerment and hit-and-run while causing
injury, plus misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving while

Schmidt Announces Bid For
Sheriff
The Dodge County Sheriff’s
Department has its first announced candidate for Sheriff. Sergeant Dale Schmidt
says the County has a serious drug problem. He says he’s seen its effects while
on patrol and the toll it takes on young lives. He says he has training as a
certified drug recognition expert and has some ideas for ways to handle the
drug epidemic. Schmidt was born in Beaver Dam and grew up in Waupun. He
graduated high school from

Science. He’s been a law enforcement officer for 14 years joining the Dodge
County Sheriff’s Department in 2004. Schmidt says he has the backing of his
wife and his newborn daughter for Sheriff and others as well. Governor Scott
Walker appointed current Dodge County Sheriff Pat Ninmann last April in the
wake of Sheriff Todd Nehls’ retirement.

Spearing Season Nearing On

State Assembly Passes Bill
That Would Eliminate State Treasurer Position
The state Assembly Tuesday
passed a bill that would eliminate the state treasurer’s position. The
constitutional amendment was authored by State Representative Michael Schraa of
moves onto the State Senate for approval. On the floor of the Assembly
yesterday Schraa says the position is now just symbolic and ceremonial with no
power and virtually no responsibilities. He notes the office budget for the
state treasurer is over $500,000 a year with a salary of over $68,000.
Amendments to
constitution must be passed by both houses of the legislature in two successive
sessions and the approved by voters through a statewide referendum.

Students Participate In FDL
County Sheriff’s A.C.E. Program
The
Sheriff’s A.C.E program is creating positive interaction with fifth graders.
Students in some of the schools participate in the A.C.E. or Anti-Crime
Education program. Deputy Dave Tackett is the School Resource Deputy for the

Presentation At Marian This Afternoon
In honor of Black History
month,
Social Justice Committee will be hosting the “Black Holes: The Rhetoric of
Silence in African American Literature” presentation this afternoon from 12:20
p.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the
speaker for the event is Dr. Justin Ponder, assistant professor of English at
Dr. Ponder’s presentation explores the link between African American literature
and liberation. Examining texts from ancient fables to contemporary novels, Dr.
Ponder will show how these stories offer new ways of perceiving our world,
while describing themes of literacy, writing and voice. Discussion will suggest
how African American Literature models democratic, fair and just ways of being
in society. This event is free and open to the public.
