Fond du Lac’s Public Works Director says they
would like the public to weigh in on whether they would the use of bicycles on
downtown sidewalks and across the City. Jordan Skiff says business owners
downtown have differing opinions on whether to allow their use on downtown Main Street. He
says he was somewhat surprised City Council members had concerns about bike

survey posted on its website asking people what they think about the issue. The

County Court this week. According to police after hitting the two parked cars
on Dayton Street

twice the legal limit.  A $10,000
signature bond was set and a preliminary hearing will be held in April.

Bicyclist Wedged In Windshield

(WHBL-Sheboygan)-A
20-year-old Manitowoc

him through his broken windshield, and hit another vehicle.  Jamie Hang made his initial court appearance
Monday in Manitowoc
on felony charges of reckless endangerment and hit-and-run while causing
injury, plus misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving while
intoxicated.  Fifty-six-year-old Steven

Closing Of Sturgeon
Spearing Season Nearing On Lake Winnebago

The sturgeon spearing
season on Lake Winnebago is nearing an end.
DNR Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs says 152 fish were taken on the Lake Winnebago yesterday, seven in excess of 100 pounds.
To date system wide including totals from the Upriver Lakes
nearly 1,650 (1,647) sturgeon have been speared. He says the Lake
Winnebago
season is only 38 adult females away from the 90 percent
closing trigger and there were 73 adult females speared Tuesday. He recommends
getting out during the next two days because the season will be closed by
Friday. Yesterday’s biggest fish weighed 128 pounds and measured just over 77
inches. System wide 94 sturgeon have been speared that have weighed at least
100 pounds.

State Assembly Passes Bill
That Would Eliminate State Treasurer Position

The state Assembly Tuesday
passed a bill that would eliminate the state treasurer’s position. The
constitutional amendment was authored by State Representative Michael Schraa of
Oshkosh and
moves onto the State Senate for approval. On the floor of the Assembly
yesterday Schraa says the position is now just symbolic and ceremonial with no
power and virtually no responsibilities. He notes the office budget for the
state treasurer is over $500,000 a year with a salary of over $68,000.
Amendments to Wisconsin’s
constitution must be passed by both houses of the legislature in two successive
sessions and the approved by voters through a statewide referendum.

Nesting Eagles In FDL County

You’re more likely to see
them along the Fox and Wolf Rivers, but Fond du Lac County
has several pair of nesting eagles. DNR Wildlife Technician Steve Easterly says
you will see eagles this time of year taking advantage of the fisheries along those
rivers, but there is three nesting pair of Eagles in Fond du Lac County.
He says that’s a little surprising given the agricultural and urban make up of
the County. He says they favor certain types of trees for nesting larger Cottonwood and Oak trees, which he says are a sturdier
tree. He says if you want to get a picture of one use a telephoto lens and it’s
better not to do it along a busy highway. He says there are places along the Fox River in the Appleton and Kaukauna areas where you
would have a better opportunity to do that. Easterly says female eagles can
grow to be 12 to 14 pounds with an 80 to 85-inch wingspan.
