Action On NFDL Sex Offender Ordinance Delayed

The North Fond du Lac Village Board has delayed taking action on an ordinance that would put restrictions on placing sex offenders in the village. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says a board member was unable to attend and they postponed a vote until all members could be present. He says a member who was unable to attend their last meeting was informed that a presentation done for the board on sex offenders is posted at You Tube. Meanwhile a bill is moving through the state legislature, which would place more restrictions on where a violent sex offender can be placed. Hornung says they are also monitoring the progress of that legislation. He says they may wait before passing their own ordinance to see how that legislation fits in with what they are trying to accomplish.

Second Republican Announces For 18th State Senate Seat

Another Republican has tossed in his hat for the 18th State Senate seat. Oshkosh small businessman and former pastor Mark Elliot rolled out his digital platform Tuesday for the seat currently held by Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac. Elliot says he’s always had an interest in politics. He says he also has tried to make a difference in the communities he’s been part of, primarily in his family and in churches. He ran unsuccessfully against State Representative Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh in 2014. He says the race was much closer than he thought it would be and when he found out Gudex wouldn’t seek a second term in the Senate he decided to run for the seat. Elliot says he went low key with his campaign announcement on Facebook and Twitter 3 to 4 weeks ago, but now that he has a website and is forming a team the campaign will be gearing up. He says he’s talked with Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac who is also running for the seat as a Republican.

State Representative Thiesfeldt Says Appointment Of Scalia Successor Historical

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfedlt says he admired the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The state lawmaker from Fond du Lac says the 79-year-old Justice commanded respect even from those who had differing points of view. He says it’s a huge loss for the Court and the Country, but particularly in Conservative circles. He says the appointment of Scalia’s successor is huge. He says it will impact both the judicial and executive branches of the federal government. He says it’s no small time in our nation’s history right now.

Sturgeon Spectacular In A Word Spectacular

The president of the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says the 1st Annual Sturgeon Spectacular went well last weekend. Craig Molitor says wind forced them to postpone fireworks until Saturday night and they had to move the kids’ hockey games to the Blue Line, but otherwise it was a great event. He says there were events on and off the ice. Molitor says everyone had a great time at the Fond du Lac Bears game, which was on Lake Winnebago. He says there was a wonderful moment when the original Sturgeon Queen crowned the new Sturgeon Queen. He says the family of the 1954 Sturgeon Queen was there to witness history. The woman’s son said it was the nicest thing his Mom had had in so long. Molitor says people enjoyed the chili crawl, the fireworks, a concert at THELMA, and a number of other activities. He says they even shot some video Saturday to promote next year’s Sturgeon Spectacular. He says overall for a first time event things went smoothly.
