US
Senators on SCOTUS

(WRN)
Wisconsin‘s U.S. Senators mirror the chamber’s
split over the Supreme Court vacancy. Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin says
Senate ought to hold hearings and a vote, on President Obama’s nominee to
succeed the late Antonin Scalia.
Republican
Senator Ron Johnson says GOP leaders are well within their rights to do neither.
In Madison recently, Johnson
said Democrats need to “get over it,” and move on with other business.

8th
Congressional District Race

(WRN)
The field of candidates for Wisconsin‘s
open Eighth Congressional District seat is growing, and a political science
professor says more are likely. Saint Norbert College professor
Charlie Jacobs says the Eighth, which includes Green Bay, is still a “swing”
district. Three Republicans are
already running being vacated by GOP Congressman Reid Ribble, and while no
Democrats have announced yet, Jacobs says that will change.
He expects Outagamie County
Executive Tom Nelson or former state Representative Penny Bernard Schaber of Appleton will eventually
join the race.)

Strange
Weapons Charge in Western Wisconsin

(WRN)
A western Wisconsin man is facing an unusual
weapons charge.
 Sixty-five-year-old
Ricky Thorne is charged with recklessly endangering safety and negligent
handling of a weapon, a home-made cannon which he allegedly used to fire
bowling balls and bowling pins during 4th of July celebrations last summer. A
Twin Cities television station reports one of the bowling balls went through a
neighbor’s barn, and the neighbor found a ten-month-old horse dead from a head
injury, on her property nearly half a mile away. Thorne is due in court for a
preliminary hearing on May 4th

Tax
Return Time

(WRN)
If you’re getting a tax return this year, you might have to wait a little
longer than usual.
 That’s because
the state Revenue Department is doing more screening for fraud, says Secretary
Rick Chandler.
Chandler notes the Department’s customer survey shows many
people don’t mind the wait as a trade-off for protection against tax fraud.
