The Fond du Lac County jury trial has been delayed for a 25-year-old Green Bay man who allegedly stabbed four men at a Fond du Lac residence last October. The trial for Roger Maldonado was supposed to begin Monday, but was adjourned at the request of Maldonado’s lawyer. According to police Maldonado is suspected of stabbing four men during an incident on October 14th of last year at a residence in the 100 block of E. 12th Street. The victims ranged in age from 22 to 44-years-old and were from Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac and Appleton. The catalyst for the stabbing was an argument that began while the group was out at a local tavern and carried over to the residence. The trial has been rescheduled for November 5th through the 8th.
Three Injured In Calumet County Accident
Three people were injured when two vans collided in the Village of Harrison Tuesday afternoon. Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say a 41-year-old woman driving a Honda van failed to stop at a stop sign on Manitowoc Road at State Park Road and hit a Ford van driven by a 50-year-old man. She was flown to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center and a juvenile passenger was taken there by ambulance. The 50-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Appleton Medical Center. All three suffered non-life threatening injuries. The accident was reported at 3:32 p.m.
Elderly Oshkosh Man Injured In Accident
A 78-year-old Oshkosh man suffered life-threatening injuries when a car turned in front of his motorcycle on the State Highway 44 overpass in Oshkosh late yesterday morning. Police say the motorcyclist was traveling west on Highway 44 when a 47-year-old Newberry, Michigan woman who was traveling east started turning left onto northbound Highway 41. His motorcycle struck her car and he was thrown from the bike. Construction in the area of the crash may have been a contributing factor. The Oshkosh man was taken to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. The accident happened around 10:30 a.m.
Gas Station Robbed And Three Burglaries In Random Lake
Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say they got a report just before 9 p.m. Saturday night about an armed robbery at the MSM 1 Mart on Wolf Road in Random Lake. A man wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun entered the Mini Mart. He forced the clerk to open the cash register and left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Sheriff’s officials also report three burglaries that occurred during the morning hours last Thursday in the Village of Random Lake. A baseball diamond concession stand, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, and St. John’s United Church of Christ were broken into.

Senator Johnson On Syria
A federal lawmaker from northeast Wisconsin is waiting to see what action the U-S will take against Syria. U-S Senator Ron Johnson says President Obama should have taken a stronger stance about two years ago. Johnson says the president also needs to be clear that the world can’t stand for the use of chemical weapons. The Oshkosh Republican is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Johnson was in Appleton yesterday to talk with members of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce.
Dodge County Sheriff’s Drug Drop Box Now Available
Dodge County Sheriff Pat Ninmann says the Sheriff’s Office drug drop box will be available to residents beginning today. The box is for people who want to dispose of old and unused prescription drugs. The contents will be collected and prepared for disposal that is eco-friendly and in accordance with Federal and State laws. The drug drop box is located on the lower level of the Sheriff’s Office at 124 West Street in Juneau. It is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Back To Normal For FDL Humane Society Animal Shelter
It will be a while before things get back to normal at the Fond du Lac Humane Society’s animal shelter, but for now officials are glad to be open again. For two weeks the shelter was closed while they dealt with the highly-contagious Parvovirus, which can be fatal for dogs. Nine puppies died, but shelter manager Renee Webb says nine others that had the disease are doing well now. She says they will remain in isolation for another two weeks while they shed the remainder of the Parvovirus. Meanwhile they aren’t taking owner-surrendered cats at this time. She says that’s because they are full up and weren’t able to adopt out any cats while they were closed. She says if people want to drop off donations they still need exam gloves to handle the quarantined puppies.
Dog Survives Hardship Both Before And During Shelter Life
The shelter manager for the Fond du Lac Humane Society says if there’s one dog that emerged from the outbreak of Parvovirus at the shelter that deserves to be adopted it’s the mother of a litter of eight puppies. Renee Webb says that’s 2-year-old Melly a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier who gave birth to those puppies on Father’s Day. The last was delivered through C-section. All eight puppies ended up contracting the disease, six of them died. One named “Davy” was adopted before the virus was discovered and was treated by a veterinarian. Melly’s favorite, “Pudgy,” is lined up for adoption after the quarantine is over. Webb says Melly had a tough life prior to what she had to go through at the shelter and deserves to have a good home.
New X-ray Unit Was A Need For FDL County Medical Examiner’s Office
Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says the approval of money for a new digital x-ray unit for the County Medical Examiner’s Office was a necessary expense. The County Board recently approved the $145,000 expense. Buechel says they got the most out of the refurbished x-ray unit they bought in 2007, but it wasn’t practical to fix it and would cost the County to have someone come in and do the x-rays. He says the new unit is safer, the latest in technology and should last 15 to 20 years. He says there’s less radiation for employees who use it and it doesn’t need to be tethered to a computer. Buechel says about 15 counties have autopsies done through the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office, plus Medical Examiner Dr. Douglas Kelley is an expert when it comes to children’s autopsies. The County makes close to $600,000 a year doing autopsies for other counties.
Immunization Recommended
The Fond du Lac County Health Department has been getting the word out about child and adult vaccinations this month. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it was the perfect time to do that because it’s National Immunization Awareness Month. She says children need to be up to date on the immunizations they need if they are attending kindergarten or college. She says you can call your health care provider or the health department at 929-3085 to find out if you’re up to date. For young adults she recommends being protected against meningitis, influenza, whooping cough, tetanus and HPV. She says many of those would also apply for older adults.
FDL City Council Preview
The Fond du Lac City Council will discuss the possibility of extending hours for the operation of fire pits by an hour when they meet Wednesday night (tonight). City Council President Sam Meyer inquired about extending the hours for recreational fires to 12 midnight. Currently residents can have those fires until 11 p.m. The Council will also get updates on the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts project and the 2014 Property Revaluation process. The Council meets at 6 p.m. at the City-County Government Center.
