NFDL School Budget

North Fond du Lac School District Superintendent Aaron Sadoff says they are looking at a $537,000 dollar deficit for the 2013-14 District Budget, but he believes they can reduce that by more than $250,000. The school board approved the initial budget this past week. Sadoff says the next step is their annual meeting on Monday, September 9th at 8 p.m. at the District Meeting Room. He says the board won’t give their final approval to the budget until October. He says there may be a possible decrease or leveling in the tax levy.

City Wide Revaluation Begins

The City of Fond du Lac has begun a revaluation of property in the City. Director of Administration Hal Wortman says that the City does a revaluation of property every four years and the last one was in 2010. City Assessor Mike Grota says his firm has done 180 revaluations for other communities. He says the market has changed since 2010 and there has been a downward trend in property values. He says a property’s value depends on location, condition and usefulness. He says they are not expecting values for any individual property to increase or decrease by a large percentage. He says the revaluation process should be completed by late next June.

Seed Check

(WRN) State ag officials are reminding farmers to check their equipment before harvesting this year and to be sure there are no treated seeds inside. Spokeswoman Donna Gilson says these are special seeds that aren’t meant for human consumption. Seeds treated with insecticides and fungicides are commonly used by farmers to protect seedlings at planting. These seeds are dyed bright colors to differentiate them from untreated seeds and so that farmers and producers can spot them. If they are found in your crops at the mill or silo, the entire load will have to be thrown out.
