Oshkosh Man Critically Injured After Hitting Tree With Vehicle
A 24-year-old Oshkosh man was critically injured when his vehicle went off 2nd Street Road west of the Omro City Limits and hit a tree. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say he failed to negotiate a curve. He suffered serious injuries to his lower extremities and was taken to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The accident was reported at 11:18 p.m. Saturday night. The man was cited for 2nd drunken driving offense.
Buffalo Wild Wings
Fond du Lac will be getting a Buffalo Wild Wings at 121 North Pioneer Road the former Coaches Corner location. The restaurant chain has 399 restaurants in U.S. including 27 in Wisconsin. The restaurant will open on August 19th. The City’s Alcohol Licensing Committee Wednesday will decide whether to recommend to the City Council issuing a Class B Liquor License for the restaurant. Their recommendation will be taken up by the Council during their June 12th meeting.
Lower Drunk Driving Definition Will Be Debated
State Senator Rick Gudex says he will leave it up to federal legislators to debate the merit of lowering the drunken driving legal definition. There’s been a move afoot to lower the definition from .08 to .05. Gudex says if that’s what people want and that’s the direction they think we should go that who is to stop it. He says he hopes federal legislators will hear from their constituents and there will be arguments on both sides of the issue. He says that would be a real tough sell here in Wisconsin. The last time the federal government lowered the drinking level definition they threatened to take away highway funding from state’s that didn’t follow suit.
Looking For Good Stories
The Fond du Lac Visitors Bureau is looking for interesting stories from businesses and outdoorsmen that might be of interest to those who write about, blog and report on the outdoors. Bureau President Craig, Molitor says Fond du Lac will be sponsoring the 57th annual Association of Great Lakes Outdoors Writers or AGLOW Conference September 23rd through the 26th. The conference is at the Holiday Inn, but those writers will be hunting, fishing, birding and kayaking. He says after that they will be writing about their experiences so the Visitors Bureau is looking for people with good stories that those writers might be interested in talking to. About 100 people will be in town for the conference. If you have a good story, call the Visitors Bureau at 923-3010.
FDL Memorial Day Parade And Ceremony Details
Here’s what’s happening during the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Fond du Lac today. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on the corner of Guindon Blvd and Main Street and will proceed north to Veterans Park. The program will begin immediately after the parade. The keynote speaker is Fond du Lac City Manager and Retired Army Colonel Joseph Moore. State Senator Rick Gudex, State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt and County Executive Allen Buechel will also give brief remarks. The invocation and benediction will be given by Reverend Steve Huff and music during the ceremony will be provided by the Fond du Lac High School Band. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 of Fond du Lac is this year’s sponsoring unit and Chapter Commander and Retired Navy Lieutenant Jerry Eaton will be the Master of Ceremonies. In event of severe weather an announcement will be made here on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ at 8 a.m.
State Building Commission Approves Projects
The state’s Buildind Commission recently approved several key projects. Those projects will include maintenance and repair to the Robert E. Ellsworth Correctional Center in Racine County and Fox Lake Correctional Institution in Dodge County. Also approved was construction of an addition and renovation to the Department of Military Affairs Portage Readiness Center. State Representatives Joan Ballweg and Gordon Hintz are among the members of the Building Commission.
Office Closings
City and County offices are closed in Fond du Lac for the Memorial Day Holiday today. The Public Library and Senior Center are closed and the transit services will not be running. Fond du Lac residents who normally put out their trash on Mondays are asked to put it out on Tuesday morning and it will be collected along with the normal Tuesday trash pickup.
Ripon’s Little White Schoolhouse Open House & Brat Fry
The Little White Schoolhouse Museum in Ripon is celebrating Memorial Day with a free admission open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Prairie View Masonic Lodge will hold a brat fry in the Schoolhouse parking lot from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with proceeds going to support programs and operations of the National Historic Lanmark. The first schoolhouse used in the district, it is also officially designated birthplace of the Republican Party and was once home to author and former Wisconsin Governor George Peck.
