Arrest Not The End Of Investigation Into Armed Robberies

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cameron McGee says due to the ongoing nature of an investigation they can’t reveal many details yet about a suspect in armed robberies that covered three counties including Fond du Lac. McGee was a guest on the Morning Show with Bob Hoffmaster Friday. He did say there was a lot of good investigative work that went into finding the person believed to be responsible for four armed robberies in Fond du Lac, Sheboygan and Washington Counties. Convenience stores were robbed in Cascade, Germantown, Random Lake and Waucousta over an 11-day span. A handgun was displayed in each of the robberies and cash and cigarettes were taken. The suspect is a 26-year-old Washington County man.

Fox Lake Inmate Charged With Battery

Dodge County authorities have charged a Fox Lake Correctional inmate with battery for sending a fellow inmate to the hospital. Michael Rogers allegedly punched the other inmate in the face and when that inmate fell to ground repeatedly kicked him in the face and neck. The victim was taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the UW-Madison Hospital. He suffered facial fractures and lacerations during last October’s incident at the prison.

Traffic Modifications For East Johnson Street Sanitary Sewer Work

Fond du Lac Public Works crews have eliminated the detour and modified lane closures on Johnson Street between National Avenue and North Country Lane.  Traffic heading east on Johnson Street is reduced to a single lane, with left turns prohibited at Prairie Road. Westbound traffic in the project area will continue to be reduced to one lane from North Country Lane to west of Prairie Road. All traffic on Prairie Road will be open for normal traffic movements. Officials say the traffic patterns will be in place for about a week, which will allow cure time on the concrete patch resulting from the sewer repair under Johnson Street.

Meyer Didn’t Seek FDL Area Association Of Commerce Endorsement

It turns out there was noting odd about Fond du Lac City Council candidate Sam Meyer not getting the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce’s endorsement for the City Council. Meyer is a past City Council and County Board member. He also served as the president of the board for the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership. He says he wants to win election to the Council on his own merits and didn’t seek an endorsement from the Association. The Association gave its endorsements to newcomers Catherine Block and Dan Manning. Meyer and incumbent Councilwoman Rebecca Lunde Ross are the two other candidates for the three open seats on the Council.

US Senator Johnson Says Let The People Decide Marriage Issue

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson says it should be up to the states not the Supreme Court to define marriage. The U.S. Supreme Court could decide in June whether California’s Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act are constitutional. Johnson says it should be up to the people what constitutes a marriage and who should benefit from that union. He says if public opinion is changing it should be decided in a democratic process.

Bill Would Allow Homeowners To Sue Windfarms

(Wisconsin Radio Network)-A state lawmaker says property owners living near industrial wind farms should be able to sue, if those developments caused them physical or emotional harm, or devalued their property. State Senator Frank Lasee of De Pere is introducing a bill that would let them take the owners of the turbines or the land they are located on to court. Supporters of wind farms say there’s no scientific evidence to support claims that industrial turbines can cause physical harm. Lasee’s bill would apply to anyone living within a mile and a half of a wind turbine.
