Farm Accident

 

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say a 69-year-old man with Alzheimer’s was found stuck in a piece of farm machinery after a coordinated search late Friday morning. A Flight for Life helicopter flew him to an area hospital. A caller reported him missing in the Town of Rhine just before 10:30 a.m.

 

Oshkosh Police Looking For Man

 

Oshkosh Police are looking for another man who is considered armed and dangerous. Jeffrey Alan Harnish was involved in a domestic disturbance in the city Thursday and stole a struck from a local auto body shop. The 31-year-old Chicago man was armed with a switch blade knife when he slashed the tires of a vehicle with a knife on North Westhaven Drive. A short time later he took a black 2005 GMC Sierra from an auto body down the street. He is 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has long dark hair. Anyone who has seen him should call Oshkosh Police at 920-236-5700.

 

BD Travel Agency Owner Will Be Sentenced Next Month

 

The former owner of Carol’s Tours in Beaver Dam has had her sentencing hearing delayed for a fifth time. A Dodge County judge this week granted a motion for private presentencing investigation for 58-year-old Deb Paul. She will be sentenced on July 29th.  The judge however denied a motion to reduce her bond. The owner of the defunct travel agency failed to provide vacations to hundreds of paying customers. Paul was around $270,000 in debt when she closed the doors of Carol’s Tours in 2008. She used some of the money she took for vacation deposits to pay personal expenses. Last October she pled “no contest” to charges stemming from that.

 

Former Fox Lake Inmate Gets More Prison Time

 

A former Fox Lake Correctional inmate who put a fellow inmate in the hospital has been sentenced to an additional 21 months in prison. Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Rodgers recently entered a “no contest” plea in Dodge County Court to a battery charge. Last October Rodgers punched another inmate in the face and when that inmate fell to ground repeatedly kicked him in the face and neck. The victim was taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the UW-Madison Hospital. Rodgers is now being housed in the state prison in Boscobel.

 

Fox Valley Legislators Asked To Sign Letter Opposing AirVenture Fee

 

State Senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac is urging state senators and state representatives from the Fox Valley area to sign onto a letter asking the Federal Aviation Administration and members of Congress to resolve the issuance of a $500,000 bill to supply air traffic controllers for this year’s AirVenture in Oshkosh. Gudex says the annual AirVenture Convention brings in over $110 million to the state from visitors that come from all over the world. He says finding out weeks before the event that the convention is being asked to pitch in $500,000 is unacceptable. He’s asking the FAA and Congressional leadership to intervene. Other state legislators that have signed onto the letter include; Senator Ellis, and State Representatives Ballweg, Hintz, Kaufert, Murphy, Schraa and Thiesfeldt.

 

Walleye Weekend Attendees Encouraged To Recycle

 

Mercury Marine took on a new challenge at Walleye Weekend, recycling. They partnered with Fond du Lac Festivals then supplied local schools with 55-gallon recycling barrels to decorate. Michelle Kilburn of Mercury Marine says they estimate more than 90,000 plastic bottles, cans; glass and other recyclables are used at Walleye Weekend. She says they will be keeping track of the total weight of those recyclables and will announce it at an appreciation dinner on June 25th. Volunteers will be on hand to encourage people to use the recycling containers.

 

Meadow View Primary School Makes A Move

 

It’s going to be a busy summer for the Waupun Area School District especially for those who were teaching at the Meadow View Primary School. Waupun Schools Superintendent Tonya Gubin says that’s because they will be moving their operations into the new Jefferson Building. She says the new building has been completely refurbished and they will have an open house in August so that people can get a look at it.  Also this summer she says they will be working on curriculum initiatives and on tightening up security at the schools.

 

Grilling Safety

 

With more people spending outdoors fire officials are reminding people to be safe when they are grilling outdoors. Fond du Lac Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says 25 percent of all fires are grilling fires. He says they recommend the grill be at least ten feet from a building. Fond du Lac does have ordinances that regulate outdoors fires and grills. He says the City ordinance prohibits grilling on balconies and is more restrictive than what other cities in the state have.
