Local Schools Earn Title 1 "Schools of Recognition" Honors

State Superintendent of Schools Carolyn Stanford Taylor has announced 114 Wisconsin Title 1 School of Recognition awards for 2019. These awards honor and recognize the success in the education of students who come from economically disadvantaged families. The schools who had won these were among those receiving federal Title 1 funding. In order to qualify for Title 1 funding a school must meet state test participation, attendance, and dropout goals along with other award specific criteria.

Oakfield Elementary School is one example of a school which has won several awards. The school has received recognition for having qualified for these awards for five consecutive years. This year it has also won two more for being both High-Achieving & having High-Progress. Waupun School District’s School for Agriculture and Environmental Studies was also given the High-Progress award and Fond du Lac School District’s Riverside Elementary School and Sabish Middle School both received the Beating the Odds award. The Beating the Odds award is given to schools who are in the top twenty five percent of high-poverty schools in the state but who also have above-average student achievement compared to similar institutions.

In a news release, Taylor thanked all of the educators, families, support staff, and partners for all of their hard work in helping to build a better future for these students.
