Local, State, Federal Investigators Involved In Investigation In Town Of Empire

(Update 5:45 a.m. 1/7/14)-The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office has released a few more details about an investigation on Betty Lane in the Town of Empire last Friday night. It began as an investigation into the sexual assault of a child. A search warrant was obtained and as a result of the execution of that warrant multi-faceted investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office, Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad, 115th Fighter Wing EOD from Truax Field, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A 44 year old male was taken into custody in connection with the investigation. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says the public is not at risk.The investigation is continuing. 

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials are keeping details vague in what they say is a major investigation. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says it began with a call 6:30 Friday night to a Town Of Empire residence. A search warrant was obtained and now the investigation involves local, state and federal officials. Olig says there is no danger to the public. A 44-year-old Town of Empire man was taken into custody. He says the call involved an assault. Olig says the Sheriff’s Department is taking the lead in the investigation although state and federal officials are investigating different aspects of the case. Investigators were at the residence through the weekend.
