Madison Man Was Free…For 43 Minutes

He had just been released from the Dodge Correctional Institute at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Less than 50 minutes later, he was back in custody.  Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, for reports of a domestic violence incident on Hwy 151 near County Highway C in the Town of Trenton.

The caller reported that a female passenger in a vehicle had exited and that the male driver headed south on 151. The suspect, identified as 40-year old Equon Hopkins of Madison, was located on Hwy 151 near Highway G, where Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop. Hopkins headed south on Highway G, where he struck a motorcycle located near Highway S. Hopkins then continued south, traveling in the wrong lane of traffic, and failing to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Beaver Dam St. and Mill St.

Hopkins drove onto a lawn located south of the intersection and crashed into several trees, where he then tried to flee the scene on foot. Deputies and Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt were able to arrest Hopkins a short distance from the scene. Hopkins was booked into the Dodge County Jail and now faces numerous charges.
